Teaser alert: Silence does != no problems. We find that providing plausible deniability about reporting through exogenous garbling increases reporting of workplace harassment by 46-288%, with a larger increase for more sensitive types of harassment.

The idea of "decolonizing" Russia by dismantling it keeps re-appearing in various public spaces. There are many dishonesties and omissions in this debate. I will focus on one of them. 1/

curious if anyone tried to frame this as exploration vs exploitation. could help figure out what the optimal allocation is b/t a) doing more & better research; b) acting on existing & imperfect one

“We lament that options for confidently investing in ‘high-impact’ interventions are so limited — not because those interventions don’t exist, but because the evidence doesn’t (yet) exist.” — @CEGA_UC

It seems that there’s a mix-up between the issue of whether a big unified polity was beneficial and the issue of whether it was governed well or not

Since there are lots of bad takes out there on the anniversary of Soviet collapse (ranging from "it was a geopolitical catastrophe!" to "it's best thing that happened to this planet, let's celebrate!") let me offer you mine... It's in the recent Cold War History roundtable... 👇🏿

At @UCRiverside and other schools, STEM students who took more #Humanities courses – and who took courses in a wider variety of departments – tended to have lower wages in their first job but higher lifetime wages.

Here is a great assignment for PhD course. Take an un-circulated paper (or major revision) by a good writer. Cut the abstract and intro. Assignment: write the abstract and intro. Solution (one of many): the full paper. Students 1) really learn paper, 2) develop exposition skills.

I wrote a piece in @FTMag on how the Russian Orthodox Church owes its renaissance to forging close ties to ex-KGB agents in the Kremlin. Now, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine has badly shaken those ties - and left the church historically weak. https://t.co/Ce9alDXGGX

Last October, the Ukrainian church broke away from Russia — and triggered the greatest schism in Orthodoxy for centuries

R is quickly becoming the tool of choice for data analysis in science. Lists of excellent resources to learn #rstats have been compiled in multiple places (I will mention here the amazing work of @djnavarro @MattCrump_ and of course @hadleywickham , links below) 1/6
