It's a good day for a book cover reveal and announcement that this can be in your hands on November 15th!
Art is by Kateryna Shadrina, Ukrainian Icon artist, for a project called "Victima."
Just wanted to add that while I was typing a quote from
@bethallisonbarr
’s book, “complementarianism” got autocorrected to “complete Arianism” and I screamed.
GIVEAWAY!
I’m giving away a copy of my book, “Trauma Talks in the Hebrew Bible,” to anyone, anywhere in the world, who enters!
Repost, share, or QT to officially put your name in the proverbial hat.
Deadline for entry is 11:59P (23:59) CET.
Signed my first book contract today with
@RLPGBooks
(Lexington Press)! I'll be writing on using Speech Act Theory and Trauma in Tandem through some specific Hebrew Bible narratives, or, through the "middle" of what is "thick." But first, to finish the dissertation.
It's official: we are moving to Denmark! I accepted a postdoc position
@UCPH_Research
for their project on "Divergent Views of Diaspora (597-331BCE)" and am thrilled to be continuing research in all things migration, trauma, and feminism, including generational consciousness.
Scholarship claiming to be "objective" and "neutral" is not more value-free and less ideological because it hides its subjectivity and contemporary interests from itself. - Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza
I just realized all the girls that used to bully me in elementary and middle school are now all right wing Christian wives and I don’t know what to do with this information.
At the church I used to work for, I got berated for publicly disagreeing with the head pastor, who LOVED Jor*** Pete**** and recommended him to the staff (the irony is not lost on me there as a woman). All this to say,
@maklelan
, I respect the hell out of you and your work.
I’ve had some really big wins this year and I could not be more thankful for them. However, what is not shared as often are the painful pieces that come with the job, how NORMAL it is to be rejected, whether that is explicit or just being straight up ghosted.
I have now processed all emotions that came with the PhD defense yesterday and have now become full blown PhDIVA. Will be eating chocolates all weekend, thank you.
DO YOU EVER START WRITING THAT PAPER BECAUSE THE ABSTRACT GOT ACCEPTED AND YOU REALIZE YOU HAVE BITTEN OFF MORE THAN CAN BE CHEWED AND DIGESTED IN THE TWENTY MINUTE PRESENTATION YOU HAVE TO OFFER??? Yeah, me too.
This paper has been presented. Many thanks to the Violence and Representations of Violence in Antiquity section at
#SBLAAR21
, and for zoom that allows me to wear sweatpants during the session.
This is great news. But we've got to keep talking about how ICE, CBP, and DHS keep overreaching without any accountability and acting outside the law in unjust and inhumane ways. There's more work to be done.

Now. Let's. Keep. Fighting. ✊🏾
There are still countless other flat-out, cruel immigration policies that aren't making nearly as much noise in the media.

Illegality as identity is an invention, a construction, created and meant to uphold white supremacist colonial empire; people can never BE illegal. While this language by Abbott is unsurprising, I will never get over how horrific it is to wield dehumanization.
I’ve announced a $50K reward for info on the criminal who killed 5 illegal immigrants Friday. Also directed
#OperationLoneStar
to be on the lookout.
I continue working with state & local officials to ensure all available resources are deployed to respond.
Resubmitted my book manuscript after a really rough peer review and feeling all sorts of anxiety. Hoping for less crushing paranoia until this part is over, again.
Thankful for
@maklelan
: I’ve had a lovely share of misogyny over scholarship I offered up on tiktok, and Dan so thoughtfully addressed the whole debacle.
Very excited about our new volume from

Guess someone spiked his coffee with some extra shots of Antisemitism the morning he wrote this...
Okay friends! It’s the official “We Can’t Afford to Move Overseas with All of My Books” sale. If you want one of these beauties, comment! I’ll take $5 per book (+ media mail shipping). See below:
Was inspired by

: I only have one book on me, but if you’re a grad student here at

without institutional support and you’d like my book, the first one to find me can have it! I’m wearing neon today, so I’m not easy to miss.
Listening to
@andrehenry
and
@iammickyjones
on "Breaking the Cycle of Racism." This on the idea of "unity": "I don't want to be united to anybody who still believes the anti-black ideas that this country was founded upon. This is how white people continue to center themselves."
As a reminder to those who are Christian, check your words as you step into Holy Week. The copious amounts of antisemitism I’ve already seen must be corrected.
Academic Math: for every article read, there are an additional many other articles you must read, making every subtraction, in actuality, a multiplication.
It has been so difficult to figure out how to care for our boy with no support system in a new country. I took Toast out to the turf pee pad on our balcony, looked across the street, and saw we are not alone.
Christianity and sex positivism hardly go together. So it might come as some surprise to realize that the Divine Plan included more seductresses than shrinking wallflowers.
For a community that believed in the existence of sin, conservative evangelicals were curiously nonchalant about the dangers of unchecked power when that power was placed in the hands of a patriarch. -

The

just got a shoutout in the AAR session on Academic Labor. STILL grateful for having been a part of that and for the work Isaac did and is doing.
Look at our boy go! 33 days ago, we brought Toast home after spinal surgery and April was absolute hell. But this moment today at the park gave us a little joy and hope for the future.
