In the Qu'ran the birth of Jesus takes place under a palm tree. Mary sits at the base of a palm tree & a voice tells her: “Do not grieve! Your Lord has placed a small stream at your feet.” She is told to eat the dates, drink the water, and trust in God

Hi all -- so. I skipped ahead to the New Testament, with a Koine Greek - English side-by-side literal translation, and what am I to do -- so much of the NT has been mistranslated, or, shall I say, creatively translated, in addition to the OT having often been mistranslated. Is it…

But Falk isn't bothered by her work so much as her success. That's when he makes this misogynistic pivot to focus on her appearance. NOTE: this never happens to men. No one says "he has his position because he is attractive." This happens to women ALL THE TIME. It's disgusting.
I can't help but notice that those who dismiss work on disability, race, gender, and sexuality because it is "partisan" and done by members of those groups, seem to have no trouble divorcing the scholarship of white men from their criminal actions.
It is because she is successful and a public intellectual that she is coming in for this criticism. It's about women "knowing their place" and professional envy. Let that sink in. And speak up when you see this happen because it will.

NT scholars talk about "the divine passive": passive verbs that gesture to the providential actions of God through the passive. I'd like to propose a second version: the "servile passive," when work is being done by enslaved or formerly enslaved actors.
