I've released a new short story, Still Life. It's about having a lady come visit and cleaning up in advance but you still leave a mess which specifically reveals the sort of person you are. And you forgot about the meat in the fridge that's three days past its date.

Poetry is the artform I have the most immediate attitude of revulsion towards when it isn’t working. With a lot of other art I have the middling affect of ‘yeah that’s cool, I see it’s doing this and that’ but with poetry the feeling of badness is very intuitive and overpowering.

It's actually well sustained by many scholars that the ancients did not have an inner sense similar to ours, that the subject of ancient greece was otherwise individuated. JP Vernant argues that there is no inner-monolog in the Iliad. Achilles for example, when he stops himself

staring drunkenly at the splayed-open chip bag on our table at the bar and was so struck by its beauty I took a photo and it really is that beautiful

EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT GOING OUTSIDE YOU STILL EXPERIENCE INDIRECT LIGHT INDOORS WHICH STILL HAVE AN IMPACT ON YOUR SKIN FROM aging to wrinkles to sunburn to even skin cancer. unless you live in a place with no windows and no indirect light, you should wear sunscreen!!!!!

@giveanonion agree entirely. I think there’s too much of a focus on naturalism in acting, hence all the pointless method acting some stars do. acting should serve the story being told - in this case, it’s more important that we hear the characters speaking very honestly ab what’s true to them

I feel like this is a very fraught question but anecdotally a lot of the dudes I know who read but don’t have a formal humanities education are way more attracted to works that are ‘canonical’/revered in a memey way

@owenpattaylor I have a suspicion that none of them are important, they’re maybe 10 years too late for, and the important people are somewhere we haven’t even heard of yet

I’ve been thinking of producing writing like this for a while. Something like a tiny accessory that reveals text in an interesting way, maybe some sort of puzzle is involved in opening it. Maybe a new direction for textuality, like adorned Mediaeval manuscripts

@OprahDid911 it has like a realistic modelling of what a black hole would look like and does some cool things on exoplanets with weird physics. but the basic thrust of the movie is time travel motivated by love being a higher dimension than space and time lol

@moonbeeaam you’re right, I would say generally the museum is a depoliticised space designed to convey an abstract reverential awe for culture/heritage. france is especially invested in that sort of thing. these protests try to repoliticise such places - since there is really nowhere left to
