The goal of transitioning should be just to do whatever it takes to make you less miserable. What other people make of it means absolutely nothing.

T.S. Eliot: “We die to each other daily. What we know of others is only our memory of the moments during which we knew them. To pretend that they and we are the same is a convention which must sometimes be broken. We must remember that at every meeting we are meeting a stranger.”

Decentralised Robotics 🧵 I/ Building datasets for embodied AI is tough—humanoid robots need real-world human motion task data, but collecting it at scale has been limited to research lab projects or closed source big labs. At Eidon, we started with our wearable IMU trackers.

In 'A Pitch of Philosophy', Stanley Cavell writes: "Who beside myself could give me the authority to speak for us?" In his personal copy of the book, Bernard Williams writes a note in the margin: "Just do it."

One thing I noticed in this book is that conversations are often had through doors that are half-shut, or overheard through walls, which I guess is a symbol of the loneliness in the story: everyone’s words come at us from a distance or through a barrier
Lonely Crowds is the best book I’ve read this year. So readable and so deep at the same time: there’s a lot about missed opportunities and the discontinuities of growing up, about dependence & authority, and about the longing to dissolve into others. Also completely heartbreaking

"Isn’t it a step forward, politics becoming openly hysterical, godly, content-free, the last air pumped out of the inter-state vacuum? You’re not regretting the exit of the grown-ups from the room, are you? Remember who they were. Remember what they did."
