all tweets are in reference to a science fiction story I'm writing. any similarity to modern hellscapes are incidental.

Geert Wilders lost nearly a third of his seats in the Netherlands. The Far Right can be beaten, they offer nothing.

California is readying a one-time 5% tax on billionaires initiative for the 2026 ballot that would go toward compensating for Trump's Medicaid cuts. The architects see it as a national model. It will be announced today.

When researchers at MIT first tried to make machines "see", they thought it could be done over summer by a single undergraduate student. More than 50+ yrs later machines aren't better at "seeing" than biological systems like jumping spiders, dragonflies, etc.
Here’s the thing: whatever you think AI cannot do today, it will do in months or at most a few years. Skeptics have never understood this exponential trajectory, and, unbelievably, many still don’t.

Can an AI model predict perfectly and still have a terrible world model? What would that even mean? Our new ICML paper formalizes these questions One result tells the story: A transformer trained on 10M solar systems nails planetary orbits. But it botches gravitational laws 🧵

Different (more professional) vibes, and the new affiliations seem to have a huge impact on follow back rate (sadly) so I'll be switching over to there completely.

I was today years old that I learned that a "random variable" is neither "random" nor a "variable", but a function. Honestly, terrible naming.

there are some real bootlicker/not bright folks that go through the medical pipeline. Never forget that.
This DOCTOR says they get COVlD every 6 months, it’s torture, their asthma’s now worse and it’s probably shortening their life. Ppl in comments suggest an N95. Their response: “masks aren’t needed in daily life" “almost no one wears a mask anymore” “no doctor wears an N95"

And now being utterly unshocked that the people who liked the counter-post are assholes but the people who liked my post are now colleagues who walk-the-walk on being kind and compassionate.

Just reminiscing about that time I was right, and then compared the people who liked my post with the folks that liked a counter-post.

These are concentration camps. There’s no humane way to remove Indigenous people from our lands.
Overcrowding at Krome is so bad that women were kept on buses with no bathrooms overnight as the facility struggled to conduct intake. Some women were forced to urinate on themselves in desperation. One woman describes having to spend hours shouting just to get water to drink.

a bunch of government goons from ICE/HSI showed up to an elementary school in DC this morning and tried to detain a staff member in the parking lot but the person's colleagues intervened and stopped it and let that be a reminder to all of us that we can do that
