REPORTAGE: Over the last two days, @carboncopyinfo and I have taken a look at India's (desultory) efforts to combat timber trafficking. We used Khair (in huge demand from Pan Masala industry) as a case study -- and found the economics of the pan masala industry is fascinating. 1

One of the worst judicial injustices in recent times, now perpetuated for indefinitely longer. The cases against these people are built on foundations of smoke; to justify their imprisonment without trial for 5+ years, on each occasion, court judgments lack all reason. See:👇

Just wanted to remind everyone of TNM's investigation in 2023- which also focused on assembly segments in Bangalore Central seat including Mahadevapura. We found that a Bengaluru NGO- recruited by the BBMP- working with the ECI- was stealing voter data. Chilume NGO also ran

NPTEL, which started well before Coursera, is still going strong. If it had been "founded" closer to San Jose, its founders would have by now entered "tech" mythology.

I used to be naive to believe that becoming more educated, knowledgable, and intellectual would rationally illuminate many political and moral problems. Clearly not. From now on, I look up to people who are above all “decent human beings”, regardless of educational attainment.

Here’s why I’m not investing in Real Estate in India: A viral thread about #Gurgaon housing prices recently got viral in India. Someone earning 20 lakh rupees annually - placing them in the top 5% of Indian earners -cannot afford even the most basic flat in the city.

Israel has been committing horrific massacres in Gaza since dawn. Dozens of people have been killed from north to south. By midday alone, the death toll had reached nearly 150. No one seems able to stop this madness!

They could have done this 19 months ago, by the way. They just chose to keep making excuses for Israel's genocide and to continue to participate in the dehumanization of Palestinians. Forgive NO ONE who provided cover for Israel's atrocities.

In just one week FT, Economist, Guardian and Independent all changed their line on Gaza. They didn’t land in the same place because starting points were different, but they all shifted together. It’s become more breathable

Am surprised that so many people have discovered problems with a bulk of Indian big media and so-called journalists only last night. Hasn't this already been visible and known for the best part of a decade or more?

India saw almost two million more deaths in 2021 (the deadliest year of the pandemic) than in the preceding few years. @naalmot looked at CRS, SRS and MCCD 2021 which were released yesterday. This is 1st govt data which shows official death toll was a gross underestimate

the essence of being a marxist is reading the financial press in the morning and muttering stuff to yourself like "bold moves from Brussels.. will Washington stand for it? The situation is serious indeed.." on the way to your very normal and boring employment or education
