If you go by hard evidence, the Modi government’s quest to someone depict normalcy in bilateral ties with China is a sign of weakness, as it is happening on Beijing’s terms. After 11 years of Modi as PM, he can’t blame anyone else for this major failure. I write @ttindia

Where @HartoshSinghBal and I discuss the achievements of the only constant senior figure in Modi’s 11 years, Ajit Doval. His imprint on India’s internal security and foreign policy is unmistakable but an appraisal shows him in poor light. @thecaravanindia.

While the government clings to a domestic narrative of strength against China at the border, the ground realities are inconveniently stark. The Sino-India border is neither normal nor dispute-free

Such statements are meaningless. Escalation is a two player game. The other side shot down IAF fighter jets, that too in Indian airspace, on the first night itself. And it eventually ended up with Brahmos striking Pakistan’s air bases from long ranges.

Barely a few miles outside the national capital. If it was not for independent media, newspapers would only frame the issue as of a very dirty Gurgaon because workers have gone missing. Like farmers movement was framed as a problem of traffic jams.

Essentially, it was not platform vs platform, as in the days of yore. It was a networked system which the PLA and PAF had exercised jointly in the past few years. That explains the IAF losses on the first night.

It seems that the Modi government is going to buy Su-57 from Russia for the IAF. If this is what had to be eventually done, why did the Modi govt pull out of the FGFA co-development project with Russia in 2018? At that time, the fascination with the US and France was at its peak.

Please. If it was in IAF’s hands, it would have already happened 7-8 years ago. The decision is of the top political leadership which has to provide the money for buying these jets.

This was meant to be India’s own GPS. Paying for a seat on commercial spacecraft is great PR but the real strategic advantage accrues from this.

India's desi-GPS satellites known as #ISRO NAVIC are near-defunct. Of 11 satellites launched, only 4 are providing core PNT services. Of these 4, 1 has completed end of planned life, 1 has partial equipment failure. Govt admitted this in Parliament, & RTI by @SolidBoosters

Any mention of Kanwar Yatra is hard to find in British documents, when the colonial rulers recorded every such practise.
