Scientist @Cambridge & @Caltech trying to build life from stem cells to understand it better. The author of #TheDanceofLife. Warsaw/Cambridge/LA. Art @BBBPACK

After building embryoids for 10 years, we succeeded in generating structures with brains, hearts, neural tubes, somites with a yolk sac. Both original submissions using two different approaches are on BioRxiv, to be published soon.

Embryo-like structures generated from stem cells can achieve varying developmental milestones, but none have been shown to progress through gastrulation, neurulation, and organogenesis.[1][1]–[7][2]...

I’m excited to share a new postdoctoral opportunity in my lab to use chromosome engineering to study the consequences of chromosomal rearrangements in iPS cells. Check out the posting below and shoot me an email if you’re interested -

There are little things you can do in sales that move the needle. Most overlook them because they seem insignificant. But they compound over time. This includes: Before the call - Join two minutes early - Have good lighting - Position your camera to show your chest up During

@ZernickaGoetz His experiments inspired me to enter Ph.D. research on DNA replication and RNA transcription in X. laevis. Thank you Sir John for making basic research so exciting. Love this picture of the squamous epithelial cells keeping him company. 🔬

John Gurdon, whom we lost today, was not only my mentor but a dear friend. We met 30 years ago in Cambridge. He believed in me more than I believed in myself. His generosity, boundless curiosity, and sense of adventure shaped my life as a scientist 🖤 He will be missed by many.

Warmest congratulations & thanks to brilliant member of our team @Caltech Wenqi Hu, collaborator @Roser Vento (not on X) & HDBR for a fantastic journey in bringing this unique resource. We hope it will be valuable as a reference point to build more powerful stem cell models

@SocDevBio Another example of what a whole embryo of a model/ research animal provides that in silico and in vitro conditions cannot offer.

While I’m a big fan of new technologies that help us study human biology…there’s still no replacement for animal research! I wrote an article outlining this in @GENbio

The portrayal of uncaring scientists without any thought for the animals being used in their research is far from the truth.

I saw it firsthand at the #Lindau2025 Nobel Laureates meeting--international young scientists welcomed and recruited in Germany and elsewhere. Some of the very best are leaving, and many of the best will no longer come. https://t.co/5TtqpRIYIx

Is you support animal research, watch the video and comment!
https://t.co/q9x70xVVLs Please watch video and post a comment in support of use of animal models. They are seeking our input and if we don’t provide it then they will simply say well we didn’t hear anything

My son sang last night. It’s hard to believe that before he was born, tests suggested he might not survive or thrive. I’m endlessly grateful for the path I chose. To study human embryos is not to lessen the mystery of life—but to honour it, and to save it when we can.

In this conference we couldn't care less where you published your story because 1. we only care if it's interesting and good and 2. participants will discuss unpublished work
Who does that? We rented a train JUST for the conference, that will take the participants from Prague to the woods of Bohemia. There'll be talks ON THE TRAIN. In Prague we'll have 5 locations with different atmospheres. #theconferencetoendallconferences Register now:

This is exactly right and we'll experiment with this format in Woodstock Night Science in June! "Day science" prepared talks will be followed up on with "Night Science" explorations. Join us! #theconferencetoendallconferences
I feel like the conference talk format has gotten so stale, even for those who are good at it. How can we switch it up? One idea is an "interview" style, where after a 5 minute presentation, an interviewer who has read the paper engages in a structured conversation. Thoughts?

When Tech Week’s not happening, we get a little nostalgic around here. This week’s an exception. News coming soon.
