There is nothing crazy about these rules. NFPA 1141, Firewise, ICC WUI code (IWUIC), IBHS and many other orgs and standards have determined through extensive study that Zone 0, Zones 1-2 and home hardening have by far the biggest impact on preventing wildfire ignitions,.
Austin Fire Dept. got a ton of new housing laws passed this yr. The paperwork required is astounding. But the craziest is, about 77% of new will not be allowed to have mulch or plants within 5 feet of the house or eaves (so 7 feet in practice). Gravel only. No flowers.

I think above ground pools can be done very tastefully. Surprised there aren’t companies that sell a diy kit. Someone could easily hand dig 2-3 feet deep, with a 2 foot rise for a 4-5 foot pool. With stone or stucco facade, would look very elegant

From a survivability perspective, "to avoid being burned alive, pull the yellow cords that are under the covers at the bottom of the door wells" is absolutely insane. This ignores how most people behave in life-threatening situations (they rely solely on muscle memory).
This is how you escape a Tesla Cybertruck with no power. I’m getting really tired of these misleading headlines. It’s very simple to escape in the event of an emergency.
