“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” — 12/15/1791
I would love to be a fly on the wall when the gun control party realizes that their grand plan to ban AR-15s means that they will have to send cops like the ones in Uvalde out to collect the AR-15s.
Gun violence is the number one cause of death for children in America.
Today, I announced new funding to protect and support our children as we work to implement the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most significant gun safety legislation passed in nearly 30 years.
@9NEWS
Civilians have NO Constitutional right to military grade weapons period. The 2nd Amendment is not a license to challenge law enforcement or overthrow our government. The 2nd Amendment is for your own personal protection PERIOD.
If you are threatening to kill people over their stuff, you are sick in the head and need to be stopped.
It is not murder to kill a person threatening you at gunpoint.
High-capacity magazines serve no purpose anywhere but a battlefield, which is why Ds pushed to vote on banning them this week.
Yet Rs refuse to hold a vote on our bill.
RT to tell
@SpeakerJohnson
: the safety of our children and communities is more important than the gun lobby.
Trayvon was shot because he was beating his victim’s head into the pavement.
Stand your ground laws are not racist.
You wanting to portray things as racist when they aren’t suggests that YOU are racist.
Trayvon would be here if he hadn’t attacked a guy.
Twelve years ago today, Trayvon Martin was shot to death on his walk home.
His death changed America and highlighted racist Stand Your Ground laws that encourage people to act as the judge, jury, and executioner.
Trayvon should still be here.
@EfhaasC
Are you a member of a well regulated militia? If not, you are not in line with the constitution.
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed"
Here’s a pro-gun violence group making a joke about the fact that many gun disposal companies don’t actually destroy the seized guns they get from law-enforcement.
A state has the right to ban ghost guns. The Constitution doesn’t specify the type of guns, only that you can own guns. Types of guns can be restricted or banned.
Perhaps you should take a Constitutional Law class like I did, so next time you won’t look like such a Moron Latte.
With Trump telling Americans to "get over" school shootings, we know what a 2nd term would be like: The
@NRA
would once again treat the White House like its clubhouse and the bipartisan, life-saving progress made on gun safety will be in grave danger.
When someone tries to tell me that “well regulated,” means that the government gets to ban whatever they want, and then spend 2 days trying to convince everyone that they know how to read English, I genuinely feel pity for them.
It’s easy to see why. …

Kids had guns at school until the 90s and very few people were ever shot.
Your solutions violate me so they are not worth the time it takes to discuss them.
South Dakota has every right to try alternative solutions, and you don’t get a say in the matter.
Absolutely unconscionable.
We do not need firearms in our schools. We don’t need firearms in our public settings. Period.
#GunViolence
is the leading cause of death for children in america, but South Dakota wants guns in schools where children spend the majority of their time.
As I have stated SEVERAL times now; while the militia needs to be well-regulated, or in proper working condition, the people are not to have their right to keep and bear arms restricted for any reason as the right is not contingent on militia service.
@flybynick
@GeorgeTakei
Good job outing yourself as someone who can’t read the constitution.
“Well regulated” is not the same as no regulation at all.
Go back to pre-school.
There are no peer countries. The US is an outlier in every way.
Guns do not make you less safe or more safe. That depends on you. Guns can be an effective tool to ensure your safety when used properly
You don’t get to violate me.
U.S. gun culture is killing children and teenagers.
Guns do not make you safer
Guns do not protect family members
Guns do increase the risk you will be a homicide victim or successfully commit suicide.

@jaydevc
You forgot the word at the beginning: "well-regulated"
Sweetie, what you do think it means for something to be regulated? I can send you a dictionary listing if you'd like.
No, the real question is why haven’t any of the dozens of laws already solved the problem.
No more violations. We have tried your way. It isn’t working.
No.
The militia was never meant to be a military, nor does the right revolve around the militia.
The people have a right to keep and bear arms so that they can ensure that there are well-regulated militias protecting the people if the government fails to.
@Critter9C
@Tactical_review
A right as part of a well regulated militia. Their definition was for war preparedness with military oversight. Current gun ownership has none of those regulations.

3.75 accidental shootings per day.
So the odds are about one in a hundred million.
And, once again, not a valid reason to strip people of their rights.
You don’t get to strip people of their rights and label it, “progress.”
You will get nothing and continue to cry about it.
Find alternative solutions.
#NoMoreViolations
Extremist judges have overturned CA's gun law and are insisting that guns be allowed at our playgrounds, libraries, and hospitals.
Seriously.
This is exactly why we need to pass a US Constitutional Amendment that will put in place common sense reforms like:
- Universal…
Gun laws in Iowa:
NO state permit required to purchase
NO firearm registration
NO assault weapon law
NO magazine capacity restriction
NO owner license required
NO permit required for concealed carry
NO permit required for open carry
NO background checks for private sales
@thomaskaine5
Any president that attempts to restrict the right of the people to keep and bear arms in any way is automatically disqualified from being in the consideration of, “best presidents ever,”
Before you ask: yes, that includes Trump.
“He was barred from keeping arms,” and yet he got them.
This has nothing to do with, “weak gun laws.” Laws against murder are not weak. Laws against taking people hostage are not weak. Criminals simply do not follow your laws.
You are getting no new laws banning guns.
The man suspected of killing two police officers and an EMS first responder while holding seven children hostage in Minnesota this weekend was barred from having firearms.
Weak gun laws fuel illegal gun trafficking and they make us all less safe.
Thoughts?
I believe, “stfu,” is the common colloquialism these days.
Or maybe it is, “Hard Pass?”
@gunpolicy
would just say, “Fuck you, No,” I suppose…
How about… “get bent?”
Whichever you prefer, the meaning remains the same.
No.
I have a solution for Gun control that I think most people could agree with. It's really simple.
Essentially, just make responsible gun owners responsible for the guns they own.
1. Require a Federal Gun License to buy or sell a gun.
--A. Getting the license would require…
It is not the guns, as without people to load and fire them, the guns do not do anything.
The AR-15 has several purposes, such as training, varmint hunting, and defending one’s home or community.
Find a solution that doesn’t violate me and then we can talk.
It's the guns.
It's particularly the AR-15 and any and all weapons like it that are single purpose designed for killing people. There is no other reason for this weapon to exist.
@FlynDutchman466
@NightShade1776
@JB_pa10
Shall not be infringed doesn’t mean anything other than it cannot be removed - it can very well be altered or modified, just as any other amendment can be.
Universal background checks, psychological check, banning high capacity magazines, and crackdown on illegal sales.
Teaching your children proper gun safety and making sure that they aren’t suicidal is a parent’s responsibility. One you failed at. Stop blaming me for your son’s death.
“Ethan’s Law,” would not have prevented Ethan’s death.
@SenRickScott
@SenMarcoRubio
keeping children safe should be your number 1 priority
Locking up guns so children can’t gain access is good parenting responsible gun ownership
Cosponsor Ethan’s Law so these 100% preventable tragedies end
All firearms are compliant.
I did not say, “the right of the people to keep and bear the arms of the government’s choosing...”
I said, “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

You don’t get to blame people that did not shoot others for the crimes of those who do.
@currermell
@K12ssdb
2A is for “well regulated militias”, it wasn’t meant for ammosexual cosplaying yahoos to collect an arsenal of weapons of war to kill children in schools and citizens shopping in stores. Gun safety laws are necessary.
While what happened to your son is tragic, the fault was not the fault of the other people you are trying to punish.
You don’t get to strip people of their rights simply because you and your neighbor’s kid were not taught how to properly handle and respect firearms.
My name is Kristin Song.
On January 31, 2018, my son Ethan was shot in the head in his best friend's house. The father/gun owner stored 3 handguns and ammunition in a shoebox. Ethan's friend had been accessing the guns for over 6 months.

It’s official! I’m the first Gen-Z State Representative to be in the Colorado State House, and for the first time in Colorado history we passed our Assault Weapons Ban out of the CO House. We should have passed this a long time ago. My generation isn’t waiting anymore! 🌱🌹✊🏽
The Kalthoff Repeater, designed in the 1600s, could fire up to 60 rounds a minute. The Girandoni Air Rifle, designed in 1779, could fire up to 44 rounds a minute.
You are incorrect.
@agentexeider
@_Hazardous_Wolf
The fastest firing gun at the time shot 0.15 bullets a second they very clearly weren't thinking guns that could shoot 50 rounds a second would be used by civilians when writing the second amendment
You better believe that the generation who has hid under their desks all their lives is going to reject Republicans flat out in 2024.
We are more than ready for change.
Who’s with us??
The people have a right to keep and bear arms so that THEY can ensure that the militia remains well-regulated. You do not get to regulate the right of the people to keep and bear arms.
MAGA often reads the constitution to ignore the well regulated militia clause, and somehow to pretend that the separation of church and state provisions actually justify a Christian theocracy…
Do you genuinely believe that's what the Constitution implies? Seriously? Stand in…
I introduced the AWB because military-style weapons have no place on our streets. Families across the country have seen them used to kill countless of their loved ones where they work, study, and play; in schools, clubs, entertainment venues. Some important history > 🧵
Here is a compromise for you, Joey:
Get every single criminal to turn their guns in, then you can ask the law abiding citizens to do the same.
Sound good?
9 children are reported at CMH with gunshot wounds.
9. Fucking. Children.
But you know, 2nd amendment and shit.

Will you help with a RT & a follow?
Update: Cambridge, MA police officer who fired a gun inside a high school bathroom took his handgun out of the holster and hung it on a door hook.
Gun fired when he removed it from the hook.
This did not follow rules for use and storage of department issued firearms.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I protect the rights of the people to keep and bear arms. They are not required to serve in a militia in order to keep and bear arms.
Don’t test my patience, Ted.
Not true at all.
The people have always had the right to keep and bear arms regardless of their service in a militia. They are already considered the reserve militia anyway, so your views are doubly incorrect.
@EchoFiveSeven
@whack187
@USCons_Amend_II
The 2A was amended to the Federal Constitution by the Antifederalist States seeking limitations on Federal powers as a condition to secure their agreement to ratify. Also, "keep and bear arms" meant: upkeep and service of the People's local militias necessary for local security.
No one is banning books unless you believe that removing something from schools is a ban, in which case guns are already banned and you can shut up about banning them.
@USCons_Amend_II
Not an infringement if the guns within the scope of the reform are not within scope of 2A.
Even you must agree with that - yes?
If not, your position must be that all guns are within the scope of 2A.
That position is just untenable.
Officers being scared and not doing their job is not a valid excuse to violate me.
There was a civilian with a gun who was willing to go in immediately and was stopped by officers.
This could have been over much quicker if there had been an armed teacher with that conviction.
200 officers & lots of weapons and armor from 4 different agencies sat by because they were scared of an AR-15! And Republicans are refusing to turn over the body cams because it refutes the theory that more guns are the answer. I’m the ex Uvalde ADA that first called them out.
I’m not going to argue with you about my own text.
The people have a right to keep and bear arms. Not people actively enrolled in a militia, not LEOs, not police, but the entire people.
The militia is to be well regulated, and all that means is that it needs to be orderly.
@BrendanMcInnis
@mmpadellan
Just spitballing here: What if people are tired of people owning guns due to a poorly written amendment?
(Just to clarify I am not one of those)
