I’ve been rereading #beingmortal (for the nth time) by @Atul_Gawande after the recent death of a family member. Seeing what COVID has done to our LTC system, I keep wondering whether the values addressed in the book would help/not help in a pandemic (I think it would help).

Benign bowels are a common specimen that you will likely gross early on as a student! The large intestine can be distinguished by the presence of the teniae coli, epiploic appendages & haustra, whereas the small intestine is typically narrower with plicae circulares

Just finished #WhatUnitesUs, really resonated w/ me despite being a Canadian - esp. about patriotism, immigration and science (myself being an immigrant w/ background in sci). So applicable for the world today. Thks @DanRather & EK. Ordering a copy @QueenBooksTO for the shelf 😊

The pride in being a part of a patient’s medical journey, albeit how small/invisible of a role. And lastly, the pride I have for residents I work with as they evolve from stressing over a gallbladder, to eventually tackling a pelvic extent. (like a proud mother hen 😊).

. (ie taking useful sections or writing a succinct gross description) to making technologists’ job easier (ie well trimmed sections, well wrapped biopsies). From the most complex case to the most standard cassette of GI biopsies. (2/3).

My two cents:. I wouldn’t say I love every aspect of my job (no one enjoys running bowel during an autopsy), but the biggest driver and most rewarding part of my job is the sense I pride I get, even from the mundane tasks. Everything from a well grossed case. (1/3).

To the path resident who posted this on reddit, please understand that the reason we became path assistants is not because we look at grossing as “grunt” work, but because we are passionate about gross pathology. The intellectual curiosity you speak of is not limited to. (1/4)

Remember that you don't always need to have the "WOW" factor in your posts. There's a need for simple specimens (and normal specimens!) as well!.

A very in depth and explanation of embryology by Sarah Garner @passion4path in regards to GI anatomy and how it relates to specimens we see and their surgical margins. Thank you for making it easy to understand! (the last pic here is my fav) #onlinePAconference

Article by @edyong209 looking at physical impact on some COVID+/susp individuals, who were healthy before. I can personally attest to the mental impact (family member spent 50+ days in hospital). It is depressing.
