Crazy day! Attended the real estate conference at my university. Met tons of alumni. Got tons of emails and business cards.
Our keynote speaker was the CEO of a HUGE development company. Everyone would know his name.
How do I stand out? Would a handwritten note suffice?
Internship update:
Having a great time. Got coffee with a senior team member today. Got placed on a few deal teams and am getting caught up to speed on them.
The models I looked at today are incredibly complex. Honestly, quite daunting. But, nothing worth having comes easy 🤩
Just realized there is a FULL list of ICSC attendees with their affiliations 🤦♂️
Rookie mistake to realize this at 9:00pm on the Friday before the conference
@realEstateTrent
Wow, quite a big opportunity cost decision your friend is making.
Thanks for sharing a real world example! I hope those who pushed back on your prior posts regarding the new law read this one too!!!
Moving to NYC for the summer this weekend. A goal of mine is to celebrate Shabbat with a different person/group/family every week.
Can anyone help with this? Any/all introductions are appreciated!
Red eye back home!
Thank you
@ICSC
for an amazing trip. I’ve made memories for a lifetime, and will be telling stories from this trip for years to come.
My college town has a ton of developments underway. Just reached out to a few construction people at the dev companies. Going to try to shadow someone on the job. I know nothing about construction.
Thanks

for the inspiration
Spoke with an absolute killer yesterday. 22 years old. Started flipping homes in high school. Now owns 10 units and has 2 interns. Said to me “maybe one day I’ll work for you”. I said, “yea right. If I’m lucky, you will let me partner with YOU.”
First day was unbelievable. I cannot believe what I have experienced in these last 24 hours. So incredibly grateful to be here and to have met so many amazing individuals.
@realEstateTrent
My situation:
Internship at company A: $XXk base salary
Internship at company B: 31% higher base salary than company A.
I chose to intern at company A.
Why? 31% means nothing today. It’s not life changing money right now. The opportunity at company A is greater. I will learn
Chronicles of being a first time NYC intern:
Got lost inside Grand Central
Finally found train, and sat down, thinking I was going to be facing forward.
I am indeed NOT sitting forward 🤣
My school has Bloomberg terminals. Spent a few hours today playing around with the LLKU (CMBS Loan Search) function. Really cool to see what assets in my area are delinquent.
If you were in my shoes, how would you use Bloomberg access???
Pro tip for ICSC is skip the ride share & split a cab with someone you meet in line.
I shared a cab with a massive shopping center owner & the head of real estate for a major retailer.
You've got a captive audience for 15 minutes & a chance to start a relationship.

My take:
High school students are perfectly capable.
It’s simply a question of the workload the student wants to take on. Another factor is the instructor.
A grade in an AP course isn’t the same as one’s score on the actual AP exam. One can get an A in the course but get a

Didn’t understand this until I tried to squeeze out of my dad what his net worth was. He said the exact same thing… “you should be asking what my cash flow is, even though I won’t tell you” lol
Started working on a case competition with 2 buddies of mine. Basically, we are tasked with deciding if a particular loan is good or bad.
The LTV is 93%. What in the world!?!?! Have you ever seen something this high??

Going to jump in here -
I believe
@chernobelskiy
is looking at resumes blind, without knowing the actual candidate.
I suspect
@406x512
is referring to times that he was face to face with or knew the candidate.
I’d rather be the last one on the plane than in the middle of the pack standing on the gangway.
Exception to this is when I have something for overhead bin.
I’ve been reading this week after week for a year now… but nothing has happened. The numbers don’t lie, but where’s the action? Anyone seeing anything?

Also, going back to the cold calling question I asked months back… is it appropriate to cold call? If so, an analyst, associate, vp, md?

Looking for sophomore and junior year summer internship roles in NYC. I’m most interested in REPE.
Will be in the city sometime in the coming weeks, and would love to meet up!

Pretty easy to gain an edge.

Had a great call with
@JTMartingCRE
! Always love catching up with other students in CRE.
If you don't follow JT, you have to! His content is top-notch, and if you've got 15 minutes to chat, I'm sure he would be willing.

True success. I often think about what success means, and what I want. I think about what I want for myself when I’m 30.
Do I want a lot of money? Do I want to have a *perfect relationship with my children? Both? Is that possible?
Thank you for your service 🇮🇱
@chernobelskiy
wrote a fascinating post on networking... but not traditional networking that any college sophomore is thinking about. He wrote about Networking at the Starbucks line.

What’s the best way to learn?
Mentor that isn’t an investor?
Mentor that’s a partner?
By doing at someone else’s shop?
By doing (via trial) on one’s own?
