Besides the fact that this tweet is just… incomprehensible, the 1985 Indian Act amendments restored status to women who had lost it due to sexist laws that stripped people of status by marriage. They didn’t make her — or anyone for that matter — a judge.
Barbara Young, who decided to gift the Cowichan tribe a big chunk of the City of Richmond, was hired as a judge in 2006 because of a 1985 amendment (Bill C-31) to the Indian Act. She is Indigenous. Go figure!
