Last night over 200 people completely packed out the Lady Hampshire to demand more homes. To turn this into real change we’re going to need many hands in councils across Sydney. Become a member: Join our discord where we organise:

Today the govt has announced that they’re basically upzoning everything within 800m of stations. 3-6 storeys by default in R3 zones, townhouses and small apartment buildings in R2 zones. This is the very rare policy that actually meets the scale of our housing crisis head on.

1.2 million visitors vs 300 local residents. Unfortunately a council has once again caved to a small minority of busybodies, and our city will be worse off as a result.

Very illuminating that the guy who actually builds award winning not-for-profit housing is telling us his biggest problem is planning laws while the politician who says he wants more of that housing says it’s something else. #qanda

12 of the 13 councils have taken the deal on the TOD or bettered the govt’s number of units. Canterbury-Bankstown has asked for three more stations to become TODs. The last one, Ku-ring-gai, didn’t want to negotiate, so they’re being upzoned to six storeys this month.

By heritage listing entire suburbs of identical bungalows we devalue heritage as a concept. When 50% of City of Sydney is under heritage conservation, at some point in the near future you’re going to need to start making decisions about which bits actually matter and which don’t

@avocalminority @SydneyYIMBY @ajamesbragg Well said. to put it bluntly, a bunch of younger entitled middle class people who wish they could buy in Newtown where ‘it’s all happening’ but because they can’t afford it, they want to destroy the suburb with high-rise. And, they think developer interests align with their own.

NSW Young Libs have passed this motion backing the TOD program. It’s a brave and principled move by them; reinforces the urgency of the crisis. It’s time for @scottfarlow and @MarkSpeakman to show some compassion for the young people of NSW and follow suit.

People love to throw “insufficient infrastructure” around as an anti-development excuse but it’s particularly funny for Kensington: - Public school below capacity - Big recent hospital upgrade - New light rail - New park next door

@SydneyYIMBY Are you guys jealous for people to live in low density housing with public open spaces? Why does a city like Sydney have to occupied with high rises without sufficient infrastructure?

Council has ignored the community, ignored the large number of young people who’ve turned out today and heritage listed four $3m houses which could instead be dozens of apartments or townhouses. People are sick of this stuff!
