The Grand Final is one of the great traditions of Australian sport, and rugby league is at the heart of NSW - so we’re making sure the biggest game of the year stays right here.

Because it’s about more than just sport - it’s about tradition and culture, with a huge economic boost delivering millions to pubs, clubs, restaurants and hotels right across the city.

There’s been pressure from other states to poach it since COVID forced a 2021 decider to be hosted in Brisbane - but we’ve struck a deal to keep rugby league’s biggest game right here Sydney for another year.

The NRL Grand Final is one of the biggest events on the Australian sporting calendar, and it deserves to stay in the home of rugby league.

Police and Counter-terrorism Minister Yasmin Catley MP and I look forward to working closely with the new Commissioner.

I want to make it clear that he is the exceptional leader the New South Wales Police Force needs right now, and I'm confident he has the skills, experience and vision to guide them into their next chapter. He will begin his 5 year term in just a few week's time on October 1.

We've made this decision based on who we believe should be at the helm on New South Wales' worst day. Mal is that individual.

He's led major operations for New South Wales Police and most recently led the NSW Reconstruction Authority - lifting up communities that have been devastated by natural disasters.

This morning I can announce that Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon has been chosen to be the 24th Commissioner of the @nswpolice. Mal has dedicated his career to serving the people of NSW and leading from the front.

No matter what happens overseas, we are united by our common commitment to Australia, and by our care and respect for each other as fellow Australians.

Our resilience as a multicultural society can be measured by the way we respond to global issues as a unified community.

We recognise the distress among the Nepalese community here in NSW. Multicultural NSW is engaging with Nepalese community leaders, and will continue to monitor the situation.

We are deeply concerned by the reports of violence, civil unrest, and loss of life in Nepal and we extend our condolences to all families and communities affected.

We will keep working every day to deliver for this community and for the whole of NSW. We know we have more work to do – we'll continue to work to deliver a fairer NSW – rebuilding essential services, reinvesting in frontline workers and building a better NSW for all.

Kiama now has that voice inside government, and I know Katelin will be a fierce advocate for her community. I also acknowledge the strong vote for minor parties and independents, and we take seriously the message from voters that we need to do better.

We promised if Katelin was elected, the people of Kiama would have a strong local voice inside government, fighting for better schools, better hospitals, and the infrastructure the community deserves.

My Government views this result as an invitation to work even harder for the entire state. I want to thank the people of Kiama for putting their trust in Labor. We do not take that trust for granted.
