5/25/2020 is when George Floyd was murdered. Why this far back, and does this mean they are looking to cast a wider net from then on? This is chilling.
The date listed on all the indictments is May 25, 2020.
It is unclear why this date is listed, given that it predates any Stop Cop City activity by at least a year.
The active shooter has been elusive for HOURS, victims are at Grady - where it's already overcrowded - the only Level 1 trauma center in Atlanta after AMC was shut down. But by all means, spend $$ on a mock city police training facility instead of investing in people's health.
These are actually fake spices and you should absolutely under no condition buy these ever or look for them pls stay with the safe reliable expensive McCormick ty
why are you, as a cook, still paying $8-$9 dollars for a small jar of McCormick seasoning
go buy a small jar for $0.50 and fill it with the $1.50 El Guapo spices babyyyy
625,000 + phone calls & 20,000+ doors knocked from my team of mostly immigrants or children of immigrants for the Georgia 2020 elections for him to turn around and start using the term "illegals." Each day I'm happier I quit electoral work, they burn and spit you right back out
The Mayor & City know damn well posting the address of the cop city petition signatures is messed up - they know damn well people will be harassed, intimidated, and threatened. Folks have been doxxed and take extra precautions already.
A detail from the Emory University arrests: legal observers were allegedly detained in an office before the brutal arrests began. “The president does not want Green Hats on campus.”
NLG Legal Observer (LO) program was founded in 1968 bc of the student demonstrations at Columbia and today they weren't letting the legal observers in. Dire times.
The NLG Legal Observer program started in 1968 BECAUSE of the anti-war & civil rights demonstrations at Columbia and NYC. To see NYPD arrest LOs at Columbia... though certainly not their first time arresting LOs, this is very 1968.
For the first time in my 6-7 years as a Legal Observer in Atlanta, the public have been requesting legal observers for public comment against Cop City. Even the
#SaveWeelauneeForest
babies did when they came to City Hall a few weeks ago.
What does this tell you?
#StopCopCity
Emory University have faced no true consequences for unleashing police violence onto their campus thus far, thereby setting the tone for universities across the country to release emboldened, violent police forces onto their students, faculty, and neighbors.
As a Legal Observer in ATL & Chair of ATL NLG, I've been teargassed, harassed, mocked, & shoved by APD & it's not the 1st time one of us has been arrested. How in the hell is a police training facility going to teach them not to throw tear gas canisters at Legal Observers?
Police say the former Atlanta police officer who admitted to shooting and killing his Lyft driver thought the man was a member of a “gay fraternity” and was trying to recruit him and kidnap him, according to a witness.
"World class city" but we're shutting down the one transfer station we have for years, we have one hospital, and the water pipes burst all over the city on the same day. This city's administration is not serious at all.
Funny how so many orgs and people were trying to stay out of the stop cop city stuff or even referendum but Dickens et Al really forced their hand with the voter suppression tactics
Mood: drafting public comment for the Cop City funding vote at ATL City Hall tmrw 10am. If you are willing to cede time to me, pls dm me! ATL NLG Chair has something to say.
DeKalb Examiner's office confirms that there was no gunshot residue on the hands of Manuel Paez Terán, aka Tortuguita. "Teran's death has been ruled a homicide"
*We* never doubted that for a moment
Today the Mayor, City Council, and the Atlanta Police Department continue their repression of Atlantans who are speaking out against Cop City, arresting two more people- one of whom is a long time
@ATL_NLG
member, Lorraine Fontana. 🧵
@SenatorWarnock
Would this include banning voter suppression methods like signature match, that the City of Atlanta will engage in against the Stop Cop City Referendum?
No gunshot residue was found on Tortuguita's hands, and their death has been ruled a homicide. I hope this encourages local leaders & orgs & ELECTED OFFICIALS who hesitated to make any statement bc they wanted more info/details to FINALLY TAKE A STAND.
#StopCopCity
Ga Dems & legislators concerned about TN expulsion as retaliation for their dissent & protest, meanwhile do not care about the repression of dissent & protest here in ATL. Cop City dissenters & protestors being repressed and 42 charged with domestic terrorism for it.
We can't afford a raise for firefighters, can't even afford new trucks, can't even afford their jobs at events but the city will shell out over $66million for cop city.

If anything, there absolutely should be more autistic food critics - we detect the slightest change in ingredients in ANYTHING, are particular about consistency, & also diff food aversions we can let y'all know about. So sad to see Real Milk & Honey throw around ableist insults
Not only is the City of Atlanta engaging in voter suppression by using the Republican signature match tactic they're engaged in disinformation bc nowhere does any ruling/appeal stop verification of signatures. But that's what they're telling everybody. This is beyond propaganda.

I need menswear guy to tackle Atlanta because the amount of too-tight suits with sneakers requires a humbling. Maybe this is how we take down the Atlanta Way
God bless this person who has been handwriting different signs in the background - I love mine - "Abajo Cadenas / Down with the Chains"
Thank you comrade stranger!
only after 11 years of part- time, full time, off and on again, switching between diff econ majors after switching from poli sci, after transferring from KSU to GSU, I finally graduate next month with an econ ba 😭🥹🥹

I was the Georgia State director of a Latino civil engagement nonprofit that oversaw 620k+ bilingual phone calls & 20k+ door knocks. I've been legal observing since 2016. I was an organizer for the Turner Field CBA. I helped facilitate the launch of DC's first city wide TU 2019.
All flowers to
@antiracistsouth
for the amazing research they've been doing re:Cop City, on the power players, drawing connections, & so much more - and every student, academic, resident, organizer, journo that's been digging in, requesting open records, etc. Truly breathtaking.
damn, maybe the facilities they've let fall into disrepair is fuckin' City Hall?? Y'all ain't got a thermostat to switch on? Use the $67m to update the AC
Finally got to sign the Cop City ref petition yesterday 😭
Canvasser, "hi I have a cop city-"
Me, "oh my God finally yes I'll sign"
"Oh did you vote in Oct-"
"Yes I'm eligible I've been hoping to run into one of y'all in the wild omg"
"That was the easiest sign I got today"
I was the GA state director at a Latinx nonprofitg & led over 620k BILINGUAL phone calls & over 20k doors to pull thru for Sen. in 2020 & 2021 runoffs. I don't need folks telling me to go & vote, baby, I've turned out the vote - I don't "pontificate" about what I don't know /1
Sen.,I was able 2 speak 2 you privately last yr at the Latino GOTV event @ GA Beer Garden - we had a frank & emotional convo, I worked my butt off to get you elected that I was even hospitalized for a panic attack & then COVID from runoffs. Help us fight Cop City, please.
@Ed_Setzler
Hi! I'm a Georgian that had a a safe and legal abortion! That decision was one of the most delicate & sensitive I've ever made, and with support, I had a safe medical procedure. Why are you taking away safe medical procedures? This choice is mine, not the State's and not yours.
Ga Dem legislators "deeply concerned" this "deeply concerned" that. The time to be deeply concerned was 2 years ago when Joyce Shepard was pushing the Cop City deal behind closed doors. It's time to be OUTRAGED. APPALLED. UPSET. BETRAYED. esp since so many are attnys, like c'mon.
Leftists arguing against

bc workers might be transient or not show up or not have skills is like arguing against universal free college bc some students might transfer too much, skip too much class, or not learn like others.

🧵: While we still don’t have all the details, as a pastor who has long been engaged in justice work, I am concerned by what we know about last Wednesday’s show of force against the organizers of an Atlanta bail fund, & the questions it raises. (1/10)
Mayor Dickens has walked back on Beltline rail, now saying that analysis will decide if the path gets rail or "rubber tires," "small pods" or nothing at all. Similarly, Beltline chief Clyde Higgs says their "position on all things transit" is yet to come.
I really do think cop city is out of the Mayor's hands. I don't mean he doesn't have the legal or executive capacity, I mean he doesn't have the autonomy bc the players behind it are so much bigger than him.
All the money spent on "financial literacy" philanthropy & services when they could just grant that to families in cash. It's all a grift to sell financial products to families. Bc it's always some bank they partner with or promote

Disagree with me.

Insult me, including calling me a “cunt”.
But saying I should take a Boeing 737 on my next flight home, was a veiled way of wishing for my death. It’s not ok. We should not normalize this in political discourse.

So how does Atlanta want to be a tech hub, host data centers (that use up lots of water), host international games (world cup) but our water system is messed up and we have to figure it out on our own.

Dad doesn't really like my career pivot bc of the large pay cut, but the peace, work/life balance, 40hrs, nobody yelling at me, not getting alopecia, not managing staff & grants, not dealing w respectability politics, etc is definitely a fair exchange. I hardly have to mask.
I realized I liked economics when I was organizing restaurant workers in DC. I was on panels advocating for abolishing subminimum wages, & arguing with astroturfers - this made me read deeper into the research, lit, & examples of other cities/states. This is what econ is for.
When I was running a statewide, persuasive (aka not the c3 nonpartisan bullshit), bilingual, Latinx GOTV field in Ga for 2020 & 2021 runoffs, I kept saying within my org "Latinos here aren't like Latinos in TX, Cali, or Chicago." I didn't know how to explain it. This does.
AJC called me back re: me cancelling my subscription bc I "disagreed" with an article. Replied that I'm cancelling (mainly i forget to each month) bc a reporter emailed someone's mf job, overall Cop City coverage, zero journo integrity. Still tried to offer me a discount 😂

@andreforatlanta
An international City that killed a non-binary Venezuelan immigrant camping on public land to protest this? Hope int'l tourists coming for the World Cup are apolitical, they might get killed by police otherwise.
Regardless of anything & everything, I truly believe Atlanta leadership & co did not expect such vocal & public opposition (even skepticism!) to Cop City. We're going towards Year 3, growing stronger. TBH, I wasn't optimistic back in 2021, but I truly believe that we will win.🧵
If I was a city leader and fighting a narrative against policing, I simply would not let my police department shut down a free vaccination event for dogs for accidental parking violations.
This morning the Atlanta Police Department devoted resources to shutting down a volunteer event for Lifeline Animal Shelter being held at Washington Park.
Lifelong had a proper permit for the event.
Atlanta needs to remove their code enforcement from under APD back to City Planning and actually fund it because they are so disinvested. With a refusal to invest in good, strategic code enforcement, the City is also directly responsible for unlivable housing conditions.
The City really has been its own worst enemy but voter suppression (v.s) is what happens when you are continuously advised by police foundation. Also, like how out of touch uninformed do you have to be to pick the most obvious & one of the most scandalous GA v.s methods
Funny how so many orgs and people were trying to stay out of the stop cop city stuff or even referendum but Dickens et Al really forced their hand with the voter suppression tactics
How did these heros know what to do in order to perform this rescue? Training. And it's not something that's one and done. Like other professions, public safety requires ongoing and updated training. Rescues like these do not belong on a ballot.
Atlanta - rally today at the DeKalb County Jail at 6:30pm.
The Atlanta Solidarity Fund has continually shown up for people criminalized for protesting - now it's our turn to show up for them.

It's funny bc while 75k+ signatures *is* a lot, you can tell the haters have never run real ground/field game bc it's totally doable. Ambitious, but doable given COA voter turnout.
