Thank you @Rongtian2 for the excellent News & Views article in @NatureCVR on our recently published article! Your piece nicely positions our findings in the context of cardiac metabolism and highlights key unanswered questions on PGC-1α, GDF15 and cardiac atrophy. 👏

Ever wonder what makes your heart get stronger with exercise? @SumeetKhetarpal uncovered a gene and secreted factor that make all the difference between the heart getting stronger and actually getting weaker. As always, really elegant work. With @LabSpiegelman and @rosenzweig_a.

Excited to share a new paper and online resource from our lab published today. We developed a mass spectrometry approach that leverages genetic diversity to systematically nominate functional relationships between metabolites and proteins.

Our work may have implications for new actions of GDF15 on cardiomyocyte metabolism and in conditions of suppressed PGC-1α function, such as heart failure, aging, cachexia and others.

We find that PGC-1α, a critical transcriptional coactivator regulating oxidative metabolism, is crucial for exercise adaptations in the heart, in part through suppression of the stress-induced myokine GDF15.
