One of the most exciting projects of my career, years in the making. Using high-throughput precision genome editing, we mapped the fitness effects of thousands of natural variants—challenging the idea that common variants are inconsequential. https://t.co/l7cMJWikk4

The nature of standing genetic variation remains a central debate in population genetics, with differing perspectives on whether common variants are almost always neutral as suggested by neutral and...

✨ Latest exciting story of @haploteam in @Nature. Here, we go beyond SNPs and built a species-wide atlas of genetic variants in yeast. With >1,000 near T2T genomes, we show how SVs shape the phenotypic landscape. @InstUnivFr @ERC_Research @CNRSbiologie

We are particularly happy to see this paper out. It has been in the making for a long time and was a large collaborative effort between postdocs @chloe_hbk, Phd students, and great colleagues in Gothenburg!

Crosses between divergent-selected lines produced hybrids with reduced gamete viability and striking genome instability (lots more SVs), while parallel-selected lines remained largely compatible. This links ecological selection to the emergence of “intrinsic” genetic barriers.

We evolved yeast for 1000 generations in divergent and in parallel environments. At regular time points during evolution, we made crosses within and between environments, and show that adaptation to different “ecological niches” can generate partial reproductive isolation.

We have a new paper out in Molecular Ecology, led by @DevinBendixsen ! Reproductive isolation due to divergent ecological selection is accompanied by vast genomic instability in experimentally evolved yeast populations https://t.co/ig1xUm8Qit

Most of our current knowledge about yeast is based on the workhorse Saccharomyces cerevisiae. However, can this yeast represent the vast array of natural yeast life-forms? This review discusses...
