a good mentor to show you the ropes, otherwise the ones that get the grants will be those who have a better understanding of the system rather than those with the best science. Science is hard, but it is full of wonderful discoveries just waiting to be found. Go for it. 2/2

The advice on why you should do science here isn't just for women. Working class? You are under-represented & unseen, break that glass ceiling! From the developing world? You are tough & independent, get out there & show them. LGBTQ+, carers, minorities... The key is 1/2
Wishing all the amazing #WomenInImmunology a great #InternationalWomensDay! We want to celebrate women's contributions to #immunology by shining a spotlight on the diverse & inspiring careers of some of our #BSIcommittee members 🤩 Read their profiles 👉 https://t.co/eaqTBLPj7N

Calling all artists 🧑🎨 and everyone 🧑🔬👩💻🧑🏫👩⚕️🧞♀️🧙♂️🧟! We're receiving proposals for our #BrainArt 🧠 exhibition—it's a nice opportunity to go “Beyond Borders” and showcase your creations. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy, it just has to be yours! (RTs are very much appreciated)

I'd like to submit a proposal for an edited collection of studies with working-class people in HE with the intention to include voices from academics, students, Prof services, admin, ancillary workers & others. Would anyone be interested collaborating/contributing? #workingclass

When peer-review works, constructive criticism makes the original story so much more compelling. This is one such story: Biological and Genetic Determinants of Glycolysis: PFK Isoforms Boost Energy Status of Stored Red Blood Cells and Transfusion Outcomes
biorxiv.org
Mature red blood cells (RBCs) lack mitochondria, and thus exclusively rely on glycolysis to generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) during aging in vivo and during storage in vitro in the blood bank....

Merry Christmas everyone, and good luck for your grants! Thanks to @ErrantScience for being both happily festive and painfully accurate, all in a single panel.

I am very excited to share the final story of my PhD, online now as a pre-print in @biorxivpreprint, where we dissect the opposing effects of antibody-feedback and memory T cell help on recall germinal centers (GCs). 1/n https://t.co/sKiEUOYiiT
biorxiv.org
Re-exposure to an antigen generates serum antibody responses that greatly exceed in magnitude those elicited by primary antigen encounter, while simultaneously driving the formation of recall...
