Problem: to solve a disease, it's pathomechanism needs to be understood. Every researcher/individual is biased. Designing the wrong research strategy can delay solving a disease by decades. How to debias research proposals?

Finasteride surely isn't as harmless as many doctors, regulators & patients might think. This is worth reading carefully. https://t.co/psfIfqxWik

Great and easy to understand post by @DrRuscioDC on gut dysbiosis and neuroinflammation. https://t.co/YwrIpta4OJ I would like to add that fasting and caloric restriction is also effective for dampening inflammation. https://t.co/PxykK4xg6z

Inflammation can play havoc with your mental health and mood, but an anti-inflammatory diet, probiotics, and lifestyle strategies can help.

5.) Note that some PFS patients report to have a window of improvement after use of antibiotics or inuspheresis before usually relapsing. The bacteria could theoretically also cause autoimmune antibodies when getting in contact with the immune cells in the blood.

4.) I find it likely that brain fog in PFS is a sign of neuroinflammation. Gut inflammation and leaky gut after finasteride withdrawal might cause bacteria and LPS to enter the blood stream and cause neuroinflammation, depression & fatigue...

3.) Interstingly, a recent study by @CosimoMelcangi found inflammation in the gut of rats after 1 month after withdrawal of finasteride (increase of IL-1β and TNF-α). Leaky gut has not been confirmed in these animals - although I personally find it likely happens in PFS.

2.) The article states that in ME/CFS - inflammatory markers like (hs-) CRP increase - IL-10 is increased - glucose and citrate don't respond with elevation to exercise - bacteria enter the blood stream after exercise which probably causes brain fog, fatigue and malaise etc ...

Although little known, there is an Italian PFS Association. They are supporting Prof. Roberto Melcangi's next project. This is their fundraiser. FYI. https://t.co/ozpq9Cz68n

@SimonBreidert 100% agreed. This is why an extensive literature review is the heart of every good thesis that gets published.

@CensoredMen Depression is overdiagnosed in the US, but for some people it really is a brain chemistry issue. But zombifying people with SSRIs for sure happens way too much. From what I’ve seen with friends, ketamine taken occasionally is a better option.

2/2 ... Now I think research is more like building a highway: you don't want to build a highway 20 years into the wrong direction. It might be better to take all the time to think things through & make sure that the highway points in the right direction.
