Publication day! My new book, The Hip-Hop MBA is out today.
This is a journey into the complex (and often perplexing) relationship between capitalism and the descendants of capitalism's founding victims, the enslaved Africans.
Hip-Hop is a by-product of chronic economic pain…
A white British man effectively lynched a young Black mother and her two children by pouring petrol through their letterbox and setting them ablaze. He was found guilty of murder today. Not America, Britain in 2023.
For some reason, Nigel Farage's banking woes are a bigger story

Curious: why are, say, Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian all seperate categories yet "Black African", the most diverse group of people on earth, are lumped together as a single ethnic group?
GCSE achievement by ethnicity:
1. Chinese (80%)
2. Indian (73%)
3. Bangladeshi (62.1%)
4. White Irish (60.6%)
5. Black African (54.5%)
6.Pakistani (51.2%)
7. White British (47.7%)
8. Black Caribbean (34.6%)
9. Irish traveller (14.4%)
10.Roma/gypsy (8.5%)

As we focus on institutionalised police misogyny as related to the murder of Sarah Everard, we must also remember the fact that the police officers who took selfies with the murdered bodies of Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman have still not been charged.
GB “News” presenter tweets that a Black man should “f*** off back to Jamaica”, and returns to work like nothing happened. This is the bastardisation of British journalism and media. And the re-normalisation of racism. Shocked the former head of Sky News condemned the ad boycott.
Never taken or even touched a single narcotic in my life. Never even smoked a cigarette. Yet I've been stopped & searched for this stuff countless times. Had I of been stupid or desperate enough to get involved with such things, my life would have been ruined. Yet Michael Gove...
We're on alarmingly unsafe grounds here. Most ethnic minorities will tell you that terms such as “coconut” are not racial abuse, yet the racially obtuse court system believing otherwise means we're about to spend hundreds of thousands to needlessly ruin the life of this lady.
When this shows up in your area - the gentrification discussion is fully over. In fact, you no longer even live in a middle class area - you live in a wealthy one.

Our learned and beloved elder, Benjamin Zephaniah is now an ancestor.
To call this crushing news is a massive understatement. He was far too young, far too brilliant and still had so much to offer. A loss we’ll never recover from.
RIP Professor Zephaniah.
A woman is placed in handcuffs and manhandled by two police officers, a needless fiasco which left her infant son severely distressed… all over a lousy £1.75 bus fare. And it looks like she was entirely innocent.

this is unacceptable.

My heart goes out to Ghislaine Maxwell's victims.
I'm really struggling to wrap my head around the ethics or even common sense in why the BBC would invite a famous lawyer who is also an accused in this whole affair, to provide analysis on the conviction.
Byron Burger is an all-too-familiar situation: Closing half of its restaurants in a bid to stay alive during a new round of private equity pass-the-restaurant-parcel
Harry played no role in the coronation and was barely seen on TV yet he is the focus of possibly more Daily Mail front page stories than practically any other member of the family. This says a lot about racism (and clickbait) in Britain.
I spent the last three days in court witnessing a brilliant and compassionate young Black man be dragged through the system for using a racoon emoji during an exchange (on Chris Kaba's killing) with a hard right wing Black Tory.
Not murder, assault or rape but an Emoji Trial.
Sideman left his stable job during the most perilous economic environment in recent history - on principle. Retweets & "solidarity" are lovely but let's reward Sideman for taking a strong stand.
People with power reading this: hire him. And incentivise others to also do right.
BBC 1Xtra star presenter, David “Sideman” Whitely, resigns from the BBC in protest of the BBC's sanctioning the use of the N-word.
Principled leadership is what it is called.
This is very revealing, a public service even. Britain's most popular newspaper ghostwrote a racist article and went hunting for a Black 'culture warrior' to be the face of it.
This is the very racism laundering and diversity drenched racism we've been screaming about laid bare.
Strong statement from the people who weeks ago tazed a black man in a petrol station as his petrified toddler son looked on and screamed.

Clearly a brilliant, clean cut, handsome and well spoken man. But what if he wasn't? It wouldn't make him any less innocent. But sadly his lack of perfection would make him much more likely to be in jail now.
For decades, I’ve researched, written about, and satirised racism in Britain. Yet even I am still shocked at the extent of racism laundering at the Daily Mail. Dominique Samuels, "The Sista Who Sat By The Door", deserves some credit as a whistle-blower. Never ever will DM culture…
The Private Eye offers even more information on racism laundering at the Daily Mail. Turns out the Nana Akua piece on the Notting Hill Carnival was shopped around to Black right wingers. The Eye also unmasks two more of the (old white male) ghostwriters
The Daily Mail embarrasses Britain yet again. No one goes to West Africa, let alone Nigeria, for safaris.
Given that Nigeria is a British creation, British newspapers have no reason not to know better and properly educate their readers.
"Your prejudice", "do your homework", "you dont know me", "being abused by you", "apologise and we can have a sensible conversation" - Andrew Neil to me.
Every word I said about Andrew Neil & GB News on Question Time has now been confirmed -by Andrew Neil- to be true.
Andrew Neil was not 'beefed' and, contrary to his shocking assertion, he was certainly not 'abused' by me on last night's Question Time. He was held accountable.
And he was held accountable in a manner that I learned from watching... Andrew Neil.
The Daily Mail's racism laundering process is now public knowledge. Huge revelation.
They are not alone in this. Goes further than media. Much of the high level political diversity of recent years was/is racism laundering.

Handcuffing a woman over £1.75 bus fare (in front of her child) is not “proportionate” force. It is abuse. And it would not happen to a middle-class white woman in a wealthy part of London.
Handcuffing innocent people should trigger an automatic compensation payment.
Harry is a thoughtful man with more to offer Britain than possibly the rest of the royal family. He has invested a lot into understanding racism and unconscious bias and the role it plays in society. That important.
Biggest moment: William's Africa comment.

Great that Sainsburys has 100% black people in their Christmas advert.
Shame that Sainsburys has 0% black people on their board and executive leadership teams.
The game... is the game.
In just the last 7 days, Suella Braverman has:
1. Nearly jeopardised the trial of the police officer who killed Chris Kaba.
2. Flew to America to pour scorn on multiculturalism and reveal herself as the Enoch Powell.
3. Effectively re-mainstreamed the far-right back into British…
I agree 100% with Akala.

The racially stark illiterate Piers Morgan just called Meghan Markle a racist. Reminder: Meghan Markle is one of the most racially abused people on the face of the earth, she literally fled Britain to escape racism and serious far right death threats.
It's a positive development that it is now acceptable to call out Suella Braverman for her racism. But it would be an error to reduce a systematic issue to just one person. Pandering to racism has become a lucrative career path for ethnic minority Tories. It's fully incentivised.
It turns out the police officer who arrested and handcuffed an innocent woman (in front of her child) over a £1.75 bus fare actually called her a "daft cow". The

Is it also normal practice for an officer to refer to a member of public as a “daft cow”

"Patrick was at a Black Lives Matter march when he saved a white protestor"
I'm afraid this fails to give proper context and whitewashes the facts. Patrick didn't just save a 'white protestor', he saved an ex police officer taking part in an explicitly racist violent demo.
Would ITV permit a black person to go on air and mount a prime time sustained attack against a pregnant member of the Royal family (other than Meghan)?
A report revealed Meghan Markle wore a pair of earrings gifted to her by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed bin Salman, who was linked to the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi

Just an FYI:
‘White working class’ is not an ethnic group neither would be ‘black working class’. The purpose of this racializing of poverty is to exploit the pain and suffering of poor white people and use it as a weapon against ethnic minorities and anti-racism.
#CultureWar
Just to be clear: the lack of diversity, inclusion and representation across the professional world, but especially in media, is now officially proving deadly.
And this is just on the medical side of things. When we move to the economic it becomes even more severe.
Change the word 'migrant' to 'people including children' and see how differently this story touches your heart. The discrepancy in empathy you feel is a concept known as dehumanisation.

I first became aware of Shaun Bailey 22 years ago. We lived near each other in west London. Absolutely no one had a good word to say about him. And they were 100% right.
Trust me: you really do not want Shaun Bailey (and his ilk) running London.
Weeks ago Piers Morgan bootlickingly asked Andrew Tate how much he was worth. Tate gloated "a billion". Morgan didn't ask how he makes his money, they played chess instead.
I hope the women at the centre of Tate's alleged crimes find justice, repair, peace and happiness.
This map shows all of the African nations before Europeans showed up.
Each shade on the map shows the land mass of a different nation/ethnic group (btw - African ethnic groups are often racistly described as 'tribes').
"The home secretary said officers have to make "split-second decisions" and must not fear "ending up in the dock for carrying out their duties".
Predictably outrageous stuff from Suella Braverman. I cannot believe she didn't know the impact these words may have on a live…
In addition to demonising (e.g. getting a Black police officer to say "he was one of the worst criminals to ever walk the earth"), the other thing we can expect from the Chris Kaba case is Split Second Decision™ propaganda. Related:
Never say never but if, say, an African American couple pointed guns at white protesters (even the KKK), I strongly doubt a British newspaper would run glamour shots of them (complete with guns) or interview them about the price of their home.
Totally and respectfully disagree. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with what Jolyon Maugham posted.
Asking a black or brown representative of the party of the Rwanda plan if said blatantly racist party would elect a them as leader is a fair & potentially anti-racist question.
Jolyon Maugham should not have posted this. I am glad he has deleted it. This kind of "imputed prejudice" (I'm not racist but I fear *they* are) was a v important barrier to minority voice & representation in the 80s & 90s. It has surely been increasingly proved wrong post-2010.
Imagine thinking it is intelligent & authoritative to separate, say, Nigerians and Jamaicans (both established Black communities in the UK). And then lumping, say, Nigerians & Somalis together into a group, even though only one group is established. Colonial-level analysis.

Deeply concerned by liquidation of Russian human rights group Memorial by 🇷🇺 courts. Memorial has worked tirelessly for decades to ensure abuses of Soviet era are never forgotten. Its closure is another chilling blow to freedom of expression in Russia.
Similar issue in the UK. Example: the fact that the far right rioter saved by Patrick Hutchinson (at an explicitly racist 'protest', which was organised by Tommy Robinson) was a former police officer was conviniently swept under the rug. Should have been the main point of focus.
The moment I saw this headline I smelt the stench of Policy Exchange and Trevor Phillips. Of course, I was right.
Genuine and serious root cause analysis (not this funding chasing claptrap) would force you to observe the percentage of 'gangland' murders linked to... poverty.
This may not be screaming the n-word or the p-word but be under no illusion: this is driven by very serious and committed racism. Citizenship stripping (no notice, no appeal) is a huge risk to ethnic minorities in particular and will certainly be abused.

In a post-Covid19 world the diversity rule book has to be burnt. Our national institutions (especially the BBC and other broadcasters), NHS, the financial sector, civil service, etc - can never ever be allowed to leave BAME people so underrepresented and vulnerable ever again.
The racially stark illiterate Piers Morgan embarrasses himself with eugenicist claptrap on the Breakfast Club. And then starts lying after he doesn't get the answer he wants.
British police officers saw the bodies of two murdered women and thought "let's take selfies"
This is a confirmation of a culture of extreme dehumanising misogyny and racism in the police.
Bibaa and Nicole deserved respect and dignity, they got the Met.
No no no. The question is not whether Frank Hester's statements were racist - that is obvious. The question is: should his house be raided? Phone seized, his body searched, detained in a cell, charged and prosecuted?
This is exactly what happened to successive Black people…

On the first day of the trial the arresting police officer privately apologised to the young man.
Thankfully the jury had more sense than the police and CPS. Not guilty on both charges.

They still haven’t been charged.

The Daily Mail’s racism laundering operation doesn’t just involve Black people. The 2023 carnival piece bylined "Nana Akua" was originally pitched to at least one Asian culture warrior.

In '15 I wrote a piece called ‘The Miseducation Of Trevor Phillips’, from then till now he has just gotten worse. I actually pity Trevor Phillips. He is smart enough to know he is not special (to racists) but too proud to accept he is just useful to them.

There is no such thing as a “Black tribe” or even an African one. "Tribe" is a subjugative colonial concept.
Yoruba, for example, has a population of 60-70m and a huge landmass, yet they are labelled a “tribe”. Scotland has a population of 5m and is labelled a “country”.
@nelsabbey
Black Tribal Leaders were selling their people to Arabs for hundreds of years. The Portuguese were the first Europeans to buy slaves from Africa - willingly sold to them by their own people. Britain ended the Slave Trade and we finished paying off the debt incurred in 2015.

. They have dug out this poor lady’s name, origins, profession, her parent’s profession, price of the house she grew up in. And conflated her with a blatant anti-Semite. Yet she has done nothing wrong. This is simply a cultural-specific satirical political critique.
Less than 72 hours ago the lights were switched off at the Lekki tollgate and - in pitch dark - Nigerian soldiers opened live fire on protestors... as they sang the national anthem in sheer fear.
So huge a crime - its hard to believe.

I didn't see or hear Windrush raised once during the elections. Hands down the worst and most extreme example of racism in modern British history: swept under the carpet. And still it persists.
After all of his sluggishly drawn out dog whistling that practically summoned the far-right today, did Douglas Murray actually show up and fight alongside them? Don't tell me he summoned working class fools to the streets while he hid away safely in the tweets...
The young man lost jobs, his house was raided, was held in a cell for 10 hours, placed in a police car, interviewed under caution, searched, had his electronic communication devices seized, arrested, charged. All over the word 'coons' (from one Black person to another) and 🦝.

It took the jury (8 white people, two Asians and one Black person) an hour and 37 minutes to find the young man not guilty on both counts. They had an hour lunch break in that time.
I suspect there are other people who are caught up in similar situation with the same hard right…
On the specific case of Meghan Markle: the notorious Trevor Phillips wrote a letter to two-day old baby Archie assuring him there was no racism in Britian… while his mother was literally facing death threats from the far right.
While under pressure from Piers Morgan to apologise for crashing the economy, Kwasi Kwarteng needlessly and randomly compared such an apology to "apologising for slavery".
No idea if this line of argument was ghostwritten by a racist but we cannot rule it out.
Why aren't Boris Johnson and Donald Trump referred to as 'clueless Big Men'?
They're hardly small. They gave bad medical advice that has cost lives. Often clueless too.
Why is this type of parental scolding language reserved for Africans?

People who understand racism uphold Priti Patel as proof that the Tories are very much racist.

It is time for change. Time for respect. Time for some real decolonisation. We can no longer allow ourselves to be disrespected by people we make rich.
We're not going to organise in this fishbowl, but trust - we'll come calling very soon with a plan.
Police should not be allowed to handcuff someone unless they're credibly suspected to have commited a serious crime. Handcuffing is a traumatic experience. No one should be in cuffs for a 'speculative' stop and search.
Britain desperately needs to learn one eternal lesson:
The police press release is not an unbiased statement of fact. It should be seen as a statement released by the police in order to portray the police in the best light possible given the situation.
Lesson over.
