Nearly three years ago (I tried to look up the exact date but no luck),
@Schneider_CM
first pitched me on co-hosting a comprehensive Saturday Night Live podcast to coincide with the show's 50th anniversary. Today that series launches.
This is total garbage. A complete lie. The seed/garden ban was in effect well into April. In fact, the order wasn't even *issued* until early April. This is also known as "planting season."
MICHIGAN GOV. WHITMER ON COVID LOCKDOWNS: "We had to make some decisions that in retrospect don't make a lot of sense, right? [...] We didn't want people, you know, all congregating around the gardening supplies. [...] It was February in Michigan, no one was planting anyway..."
AMC is breaking into its showing of POLICE ACADEMY to have two talking heads shame the film's joke writers, 38 years after the fact, for not living up to 2022 standards on race, gender, and sexuality.
Hey, enjoy the movie!
In Chicago, gas stations are hiring private security guards to man the pumps for an hour or two each day because otherwise residents are too scared to fill up due to threat of carjackings.
This will get lost, I'm sure, but
@rkylesmith
picked up on it: "Will Smith laughed at the joke initially, then looked over at his unhappy wife and reversed gears. Hard."
Free Press: "So, our poll shows the incumbent Democrat governor, well-known on the national stage, is essentially tied with a Black Republican from Detroit who has less than 50% name ID across the state. NBD, see page 4."
@redsteeze
He wrote a column on Oct. 18 with multiple references to the "Braves". On Oct. 25, someone scrubbed all those words and changed them to "Atlanta".

WaPo’s

: Media focusing too much on the pricetag of Dems’ $3.5T bill: “The bill itself will not cost $3.5T in the sense it will be entirely, or at least partly, paid for. So the actual cost will be smaller than that, perhaps zero, although I think that’s unlikely"
At around 3am Saturday morning, Illinois Democrats passed a budget that includes provisions that force private businesses, under penalty of large fines, to take part in free election-year advertising for the Governor and his party.
This guy had a $200 budget and he has apparently defeated the New Jersey state senate president in a race that was on absolutely no one's radar. That is awesome.
The bill literally reads "No gas may be pumped at a gas station in this State unless it is pumped by a gas station attendant employed at the gas station."
During a town hall Tuesday night in Oak Park, state Rep. Camille Y. Lilly appeared to backtrack on parts of her proposed bill to make pumping your own gas illegal in Illinois.
“That was never the intent.”
"Drag queens make everything better. Drag queens are fun," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says at a civil rights conference in Lansing while speaking out against what she describes as efforts to divide people.
"A drag queen for every school," she adds.
WOW: Retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, a Republican, said today that he formerly backed Kavanaugh but concluded he lacks the judicial temperament for the job: "His performance in the hearings ultimately changed my mind.”
BACK TO SCHOOL:
@ClarkCountySch
is introducing a new district-wide grading policy.
The lowest grade is 50%. Grades wont be influenced by attendance, participation, & late assignments.
CCSD says this creates equity, some teachers say it lowers standards. Full report on
@8NewsNow
They are seriously making the argument that an order by the Governor to *close gardening areas in stores* does not actually mean the sale of gardening items is banned. Just that the area must be blocked off to shoppers.
Margaret Brennan: “We can gather for Christmas, or it’s just too soon to tell?”
Fauci: “You know, Margaret, it’s just too soon to tell. We’ve just gotta concentrating on continuing to get those numbers down, & not try to jump ahead by weeks or months...”
Whoa. This is not a small thing. Jesse White, for deacdes, almost certainly was the most-popular politician in the state. In four out of his six statewide elections, he was the leading vote-getter on the ballot.
Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski has defeated Arthur Jones, a Holocaust denier with ties to neo-Nazism, in the Illinois 3rd Congressional District race: AP
Democratic presidential campaigns are fuming over fact checkers who appear to give their esoteric policy disputes and faulty recollections the same weight as Trump’s daily whoppers and spreading of self-serving myths
This is beyond gross. With a knowing nod and grin, the Vice President asks you to think about what it means for the life of your son if he doesn't have the opportunity to convince the mother of his child to kill it in the womb. Yes, let's think about that, shall we?
The true story of this election may have very little to do with the politicians who won or lost. It may have much more to do with the damage this process did to the democratic system
That Cook County judge has rescinded his order that took away a mother's custody rights because she was unvaccinated. She says she was following her doctor's advice. Now that the door is open, husband plans to appeal.
Just finished "Justice on Trial," the new book from
@MZHemingway
and
@JCNSeverino
, and it is *fantastic*. Look forward to talking with them both tomorrow for this week's

Let's remember that after the inital closures, Whitmer also ordered *every K-12 school and every college/university in the state* to be shut down once again in November/December 2020
@McCormackJohn
Also, his voice was heard on the show, most memorably as the "Rush Limbaugh Show Official Obama Criticizer" during the eight years he was in office.
Imagine thinking this is a proper use of government power: "if it is not feasible for retailer to include the statement on any ... receipt ... then retailer shall post the statement on a sign that is clearly visible to customers. The sign shall be no smaller than 4 by 8 inches."
The new

The Free Press wants to make sure you know that a petition-driven effort to increase school choice in Michigan is very, very, very "controversial," while a petition-driven effort to enshrine the right to abortion in the state Constitution is certainly not.
"This episode represents a black mark upon the media outlets that bent over backward to fill in the obvious gaps in Hamas’s narrative with conjecture presented as absolute fact." -
@NoahCRothman
My neighbor, friend, and one of the wisest, most talented and kindest people I’ve ever met, Philip Baker Hall, died peacefully last night. He was surrounded by loved ones. The world has an empty space in it.
Politifact in a nutshell: Biden is "basically correct" by citing a study that says virtually all COVID deaths were avoidable, but Trump is "mostly false" to cite a model that says mitigation efforts saved lives.
@cjscalia
Trying to put this to words. Colbert, having done a parody of a hyper-conservative opinion show to high acclaim, is now intent on doing a parody of a hyper-left opinion show on a nightly basis, but he isn't in on the joke. It's one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen.
"The pro-choice movement makes many arguments which I find unconvincing. But one thing they have always said is that pro-lifers really just want to control women’s bodies. And part of me thinks that this is probably right."
@davidharsanyi
Illinois also is the only state to require a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card to legally possess firearms or ammunition. That is issued by the Illinois State Police and should disqualify anyone on this list.
