Revenge of the cyclists! ๐๐. Free-for-all illegal footpath parking has (hopefully) come to an end on Cross Street outside the Courthouse. New bike parking installed in place of where the vehicles would usually illegally park. Thanks @corkcitycouncil - more of this please! ๐

I think the best thing about this photo is how neither the @RSAIreland nor anyone from AGS in this photo cared that the Garda vehicle in the background is parked across a protected cycleway.

โฌ400,000 a piece and @corkcitycouncil are not just failing to provide the public & elected officials with a report to prove their effectiveness,. But have also allowed them to look absolutely shite. I point blank refuse to believe any staff member in CCC walks around town.

Can we have a conversation about taxis filling up our bus lanes?. Yes, currently they are allowed to use them. But should they be?. @DublinCommuters

I've posted about it before & will continue to do so. How can this crossing still exist in 2024?. Main crossing from Wilton SC to Cork University Hospital. Pedestrians, incl elderly forced to stand on narrow island between 8 busy car traffic lanes. @corkcitycouncil @what_if_cork

From Monday, a number of Kinsales small & narrow, charming inner streets will be pedestrianised! . Fingers crossed it'll be a great success (no doubt it will be) and that @Corkcoco will consider to make it a permanent feature. ๐ค. #StreetsAreForPeople #Kinsale #WildAtlanticWay

Here's the most incredibly frustrating part of all of this though:. The Garda's last question to me before leaving was this; "do you wear a helmet?", adding "cycling is dangerous, like". Yep. Safe to say @GardaTraffic don't give a shite. Nothing surprises me anymore.

When the majority of councillors within @corkcitycouncil, incl Lord Mayor @KelleherColm voted against the fully-connected Curraheen Cycleway plans in favour of keeping <10 on-road parking spaces;. They voted to allow kids to cycle *this* contraflow cycleway as an alternative:

Thoughts after a short visit to Galway:. Beautiful city with amazing historical streets yet completely given over to private cars. I failed to spot even a painted cycle lane in & around the city centre, despite the city having a @TFIupdates bike share scheme. Totally bizarre!

South Mall anyone?.@corkcitycouncil.
This is how the city of Nice in France designed a new cycle path through a main thoroughfare while still allowing 2 way vehicle traffic. But take note. Little on street parking. @LKBlockers @LkCycleDesign @LimerickCouncil @Limerick_ie. A great design for O Connell Street.

Back in December,.I asked the Director of Services, David Joyce @ @corkcitycouncil why these bollard style lights were left decaying and broken all along Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork City's primary shopping street & winner of a "Best Street Award" a few years ago. A thread ๐

Traffic at a standstill along Clonakilty's main street. Pedestrianisation cancelled after just a two day trial. None of these cars are shopping here, just passing through. The excess fumes and noise are noticeable. Where's the ambition?. At least try it out. @COSullivanTD

I'd like a refund of โฌ3.60 to cover the bus fare I had to pay to get to and from the vaccination centre, so. Or does subsidised travel/parking only apply to those travelling by private car? ๐คทโโ๏ธ.

I just want to cycle home from college safely, without being run over, hurt or killed. Is that too much to ask?. Apparently, for the below Cork Taxi Co-op driver, it is. Refused to move. Me: "It's a cycle lane".Him: "Yeah, well use it so". Ehhm, what? ๐ค๐. #freethecyclelanes

20 seconds at Christy Ring Bridge, where there's a no-right turn rule in place. Imagine the amount of fines you'd collect in a day with camera or in person enforcement. If they wanted to enforce, they would. This isn't acceptable. @corkcitycouncil @cllrkmac @market1788

There's no reason why most roads in Ireland ๐ฎ๐ช can't have something like this accommodating both those cycling and those walking. ๐ด ๐ถ . Particularly busy National roads. Imagine the N71 in West Cork with something like this - it would be fantastic! ๐. ๐Arcachon, France ๐ซ๐ท

This is what bugs me in Cork. Why have parking here at all? Why not turn it into a bus lane?. 205 stuck in traffic, while these cars are all parked here, probably all day. There's at least 5 car parks within 5 mins from here. Absolutely no need for it. @corkcitycouncil

The OPW cut Skibbereen off from its river. Hidden behind ugly concrete, a shadow of its former self. Let's not do the same in Cork City. #LoveTheLee @savecorkcity

The Marquee Road cycle lane was only 'designed' and installed a few months ago. @corkcitycouncil were advised by myself & others in the public consultation phase that leaving a left-turn slip lane on this minor road would cause conflict and danger between cycles & motorists.

When members of An Garda Siochana feel they're entitled to park their private vehicles like this directly outside their 24 hour City centre station,. What hope do we have when it comes to them enforcing illegal parking across the city?. Wheelchair users? Buggies?. @makewayday

Hi @AskKBCIreland, would you mind asking your banking reps not to park their KBC-branded SUV across the bike lane at Cork Institute of Technology? This was taken at 8.50am this morning. Rush hour, and it's throwing cyclists & wheelchairs into traffic. Thanks. @CITSU @CIT_ie

@DealsTrading @age_cycling @fastwayireland Why can't he block the road?. Car drivers can wait for a minute or go around. Or does that only apply to vulnerable road users?.

@GardaTraffic Why wasn't the vehicle towed? An FCPN doesn't help those including the wheelchair user photographed who need to pass by on the footpath safely. The car could have been parked there all day ๐คทโโ๏ธ.

Response from Hegarty on the below; hopefully we won't see a repeat of it!

While cycling to the Marina the other day;. I overheard a family who were quite confused by the very negative "NO ENTRY" signage, which they thought applied to all road users, and therefore began turning back, before I advised them. *Positive* signage needed, @corkcitycouncil!

It's been open two days. Two. Days. @corkcitycouncil you've worked on this for a year. More bollards needed at Parliament St junction end to prevent this.

8 mins to travel half a km on the Douglas Road due to traffic congestion and zero bus priority on a corridor that sees hundreds of buses a day, many with 15 minute frequencies. Every single cllr who rallied against bus priority measures on this road - hang your heads in shame
This traffic congestion works for nobody. How you can have 20+ bus routes traversing the South Mall with absolutely no priority for public transport in 2024 is simply unbelievable. Mental attitude from drivers around 5pm everyday too - blocked crossings & aggression evident.

Huge mistake not including a footpath by the cycle lane on the quayside of Albert Quay. Loads of pedestrians understandably walking in the cycle lane as a result towards Marina Market and the quays/Marina area. Huge safe missing link for pedestrians here @corkcitycouncil

I'm beginning to notice more and more red-light running around the city as of late - watch closely, the last driver is particularly brazen - just breezes straight through a red whilst the pedestrian and cycle signals are green. @RSAIreland less hi-viz & more enforcement please.

Why is a car manufacturer partnering with the national road safety agency?.
โI remember thinking, I am about to die.โ @โimogencotter recounts the day she was hit by an oncoming vehicle, resulting in five surgeries and hundreds of hours of physio. Imogen is partnering with RSA to remind motorists to slow down and share roads safely with those who cycle.

A prime example of #DerelictIreland in the heart of Waterford City Centre. Top two windows already cracked and damaged, the right hand side one just blew out and fell on top of the parked car below. Luckily it wasn't a person walking by!. Dereliction affects us all.
