I think you don't fully realise just how shite Bus Eireann & public transport in Cork is, until you're left standing in the wet, cold & windy weather after multiple buses don't show up or pass Out of Service. Absolutely pathetic. I shouldn't be forced to buy a car to get home.

Revenge of the cyclists! 😉😆. Free-for-all illegal footpath parking has (hopefully) come to an end on Cross Street outside the Courthouse. New bike parking installed in place of where the vehicles would usually illegally park. Thanks @corkcitycouncil - more of this please! 👍

Truck driver swerves & hits a person cycling. Apparently the cyclist is at fault for not wearing a helmet, something that isn't a legal requirement?. How would a helmet protect said cyclist had they gone under the huge truck?. This sets a dangerous precedent for future cases.

I often think it's such a shame that we don't have more seating around town. A beautiful square like Red Abbey, completely devoid of anywhere to sit. Most other European cities would make this area an attraction in itself, with chairs and tables for locals and tourists alike.

Yes it's a pain & time consuming to formally report illegal / dangerous parking to Gardaí - but it can yield results, and (hopefully!) behaviour change. Confirmation received today that the below driver was issued with & paid an FCPN for parking illegally on Pope's Qy cycleway.

Here's the most incredibly frustrating part of all of this though:. The Garda's last question to me before leaving was this; "do you wear a helmet?", adding "cycling is dangerous, like". Yep. Safe to say @GardaTraffic don't give a shite. Nothing surprises me anymore.

🚲 Another reminder that Ireland's first and only rural bike-share scheme, based in Clonakilty has been forced to shut down, for well over a year now, due to insurers refusing to insure the scheme, despite zero claims or issues in the past. This is deplorable. Let's tackle it.

I'm in Samarkand, Uzbekistan 🇺🇿 (UZ's second largest city) and on this tiny little old minibus I can tap to pay my fare (about 14 cent) with any phone or contactless card. Why can't we do this in Ireland in 2023?. Seems absolutely mad.

An Garda Síochána & Cork County Council OBJECTED to pleads from multiple people & groups to change the speed limit on the Inchydoney - Clonakilty Causeway from 80km to a reasonable 50km. This road only has a footpath 1/3 of the way. Hugely popular with walkers & cyclists. 🤷♂️

Thoughts after a short visit to Galway:. Beautiful city with amazing historical streets yet completely given over to private cars. I failed to spot even a painted cycle lane in & around the city centre, despite the city having a @TFIupdates bike share scheme. Totally bizarre!

Trying to cross at Kyrl's Quay is a nightmare for pedestrians. Waiting 5+ minutes for a pedestrian signal, after pressing the button. But: two cycles for vehicles. And the pedestrian signal lasts less than 10 seconds before flashing & going red again. 🤷♂️

This is how the city of Nice in France designed a new cycle path through a main thoroughfare while still allowing 2 way vehicle traffic. But take note. Little on street parking. @LKBlockers @LkCycleDesign @LimerickCouncil @Limerick_ie. A great design for O Connell Street.

Any faith I once had in An Garda Siochana to police professionally, with respect to all road users, is now gone. I am absolutely appalled at the lack of interest here. I was treated as an inconvenience the entire time. How many more cyclist deaths do Gardai need to start caring?.

A thread about trying to report illegal parking to Gardai. 👇. This van was blocking the whole footpath, and a family with a wheelchair user was in front of me at the time. Family attempts to get around - I tell the driver he's blocking the path. I get told to fuck off. (1)

Disappointingly, I'm back to filming my journeys by bike as I commute to and from work (a fairly short distance, perhaps 25 mins cycling). The level of poor driving has unfortunately returned to pre-pandemic levels, sadly. It shouldn't be like this. But alas, here we are.

Between the Greenway, a pedestrianised Marina, and the new protected cycle lanes, I reckon over 80% of my journey from home to Kent Station today was safe, segregated & car-free. The only missing links that remain are in the city centre itself. We're getting there, Cork! 🚲 🙂

The Marquee Road cycle lane was only 'designed' and installed a few months ago. @corkcitycouncil were advised by myself & others in the public consultation phase that leaving a left-turn slip lane on this minor road would cause conflict and danger between cycles & motorists.

Anyway, back to the situation, in the 10 mins I was talking to Gardai, more and more taxis pulled up into the bike lane. The evidence was before their eyes and they simply waved them off and did nothing. This lack of interest from our police force is a huge part of the problem.

@GardaTraffic Why wasn't the vehicle towed? An FCPN doesn't help those including the wheelchair user photographed who need to pass by on the footpath safely. The car could have been parked there all day 🤷♂️.

This driver close-passed me dangerously, within an inch of my handlebars, on my way into work this afternoon. When confronted, she laughed, jeered and made hand signals (some of which you can see in the photo). This isn't okay. No-one has a right to put someone else in danger.

8 mins to travel half a km on the Douglas Road due to traffic congestion and zero bus priority on a corridor that sees hundreds of buses a day, many with 15 minute frequencies. Every single cllr who rallied against bus priority measures on this road - hang your heads in shame
This traffic congestion works for nobody. How you can have 20+ bus routes traversing the South Mall with absolutely no priority for public transport in 2024 is simply unbelievable. Mental attitude from drivers around 5pm everyday too - blocked crossings & aggression evident.

I can think of much better uses for our historic (and, with some investment & TLC, attractive) riverside quays. Hint: it doesn't involve wasting valuable public space with parking for private vehicles whilst there are thousands of covered parking spaces across several car parks.

After liaising with Bus Eireann's CEO, Area Manager for Cork & their national Accessibility Manager, along with Gardai,. Bus Eireann staff are STILL parking illegally at the bus station, driving at pedestrians whilst they mount the footpaths around the station. Unacceptable.

A prime example of #DerelictIreland in the heart of Waterford City Centre. Top two windows already cracked and damaged, the right hand side one just blew out and fell on top of the parked car below. Luckily it wasn't a person walking by!. Dereliction affects us all.
