I tried to enforce all the SOPs I had read about, design docs, TDD, markdown for change logs, self contained problem statements etc. Things blow up the moment you add a new feature to a previous codebase. Context compacting is a huge ding on its competency. Long way to go. .

Time to say "I was wrong, we are not there yet"CS Ph.Ds: keep at it, your grit/consistency will win hands down every time. Working with Claude Opus on my small research project has quickly devolved into an exercise of polishing a turd over the weekend. Gets shinier, but still 💩.
A recent "vibe coding" experiment with Claude code has unfortunately strengthened my cynical opinion: CS Ph.Ds based on novel data methods, interdisciplinary computational work, data science, are going to have a tragically lower, almost insignificant relevance "half life" 🧵.
