Shame, humiliation, defeat and feeling trapped are key drivers to suicide. Everyone is entitled to a duty of care.

I’m supporting my neurodiverse partner at #ucucongress. From the outside, the Congress and Conference is ableist. It has been isolating, discriminatory and at times bullying. He and his colleagues have been in distress and held in contempt. A BIG wake-up on equality is needed.

New national #suicideprevention strategy gathering pace this week. First draft is a big moment. Weighing up evidence & what campaigners have achieved while accepting ££ pressures & meeting impossible timescale. Driven by values. This, by the way, is how civil service works.

Are you aware nearly half of the abstracts from Randomized Controlled Trials contain biased reporting of the studies results. Most professionals trust the abstract & authors conclusions. Blind Trust in the Medical Authority has ended!

Just started @DrJimJackson new book on audible. I can’t read due to #longcovid so am thankful I can listen. Dr. Jackson has been brilliant on Twitter these last years, always responding to those of us with long covid with a clear voice on #brain and #cognitivedysfunction.

Picture editors - please do not use Sarah Everard’s photography to illustrate every story on Met/ VAWG. It is a source of unimaginable and constant trauma for families who have no warning and no control of when and where to look.

@GMB the banner headline of “principal who committed suicide” is regrettable and inappropriate. It stigmatising and should be avoided. As a media outlet it comes with accountability for responsible reporting @SR_Toolkit @susannareid100 @edballs @ranvir01 @samaritans

Most of us in #mentalhealth have spent years trying to get people to seek help when they need it. Untreated depression being a major cause of suicide. So when we talk about charging people to see a GP, we should start not with the money but the risks.

This is so important, re-telling your story (esp. a trauma story) repeatedly can be harmful.

Here’s a quick tip on how to support your mental health. It’s not always helpful to retell your story over and over again. All that does it allow you to relive your story. And that isn’t always helpful.

There is silence, stigma and shame around suicide bereavement and suicide loss can leave us searching for answers and looking for the right words whilst trying to navigate this loss. Don't let silence have the last word. Share your voice at https://t.co/WaGqxPICJR #WordsUnspoken

Today is #WorldSuicidePreventionDay . This year’s theme, “Creating hope through action,” reflects the need for all of us- family members, friends, co-workers, community members, educators, religious leaders, healthcare professionals, and politicians to take action to #StopSuicide

There is no one path to hope in #SuicidePrevention. It can look and feel different to everyone and the actions we take are personal & individual. We asked people to share how they create hope when they’re going through a tough time. #WSPD Explore here: https://t.co/Z8Z2TbLlPd

Big drivers of suicide rates here & worldwide are financial stress, isolation, mental illness, access to suicide methods. So prevention = •economic support/opportunity •staying connected •mental health care, ⬇️ stigma •limiting key methods & how media report them. #WSPD2022

For families bereaved by suicide, #WorldSuicidePreventionDay is a painful commemoration. Thanks to their stories, their campaigns, profile of #suicideprevention has never been higher - with public, press, politicians. Turning tragedy into saving others, a brilliant achievement.

From our research with #journalists, we know they can struggle with how to use suicide reporting guidelines. We’ve simplified guideline advice into six questions they can ask themselves as they report their stories. Find more: https://t.co/2yHW46ysW1 #WSPD2022 #journorequest
