It is awfully shocking the poor authorship assigning framework is being followed even elite institutes. Fighting a similar one currently.

As a PI, most of my lab skills have deteriorated. I barely know how to do anything in the lab, but I'm pretty good at multi-factor authentication, paperwork, electronic signatures... I also tell myself that I'm good at thinking about the big picture, whatever that means.

The stats are shocking but true. In addition, the system sometimes favours those with more opportunities who do not want to stay in academia, creating an artificial bottleneck.

More than 40 percent of #postdocs leave academia. Those who landed a coveted faculty position were more likely to have had a highly cited paper, changed their research topic between their #PhD and postdoc, or moved abroad after receiving their doctorate.
