Sometimes Iโ€™m asked to help dairy producers and nutritionist to evaluate the different options of milk replacers or whole milk to best feed their calves. The choice seems to be way more clear for us humans ๐Ÿฅ›๐Ÿฎ

In this episode, we look at how dairy producers can make sure that every heifer raised generates revenue for the farm. We talk about key elements to help raise quality heifers with our guest, @Rodrigo_Molano_ from @Lactanet_Canada: https://t.co/h9zCCiJ8V8 #cdndairy

Our Viewpoint on the uncertainties in the micronutrient adequacy of the EAT-Lancet Planetary Health Diet was just accepted in @TheLancetPlanet We found it was inadequate in iron, zinc, calcium, and vitamin B12. To fill these nutrient gaps required increased animal source foods

Red meat has been linked to all sorts of adverse health outcomes. But a new study shows that the associations are weak or nonexistent.

A recent cross-sectional study by Uyama et al. (@OntVetCollege) found that preweaning calves were frequently treated with antimicrobials and identified practices associated with antimicrobial use. Read the full paper in the Journal of Dairy Science โžก๏ธ https://t.co/sGAqK6m2Kb

โ€œโ€ฆbecause they rely on grazing and forages, cattle need only 0.6 kg of protein from edible feed to produce 1 kg of protein in milk and meat, which is of higher nutritional quality. Cattle thus contribute directly to global food security.โ€ #WSJFood https://t.co/XEsQsOi9Dw

Percent contribution to greenhouse gas emissions in 2019 (more than 6500 MMT of CO2e) from different sectors of the US economy. Agriculture is ~10% of US GHG emissions, w/ livestock directly (enteric methane aka ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ‚ burps, ๐Ÿ’ฉ emissions) contributing 4% https://t.co/TC9TWY6uHh

One of the reasons ruminants ๐Ÿ„๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‘are awesome: "...ruminants need 0.6 kg of human-edible protein feed intake to produce 1 kg of protein (contrary to 2 kg for monogastrics), which makes them net contributors to global human-edible protein production." https://t.co/4szAIJwMgD
