My take is the Sugar VOLS were/are slept on due to the 1 L & 2 T in their record Tied the ACC 2nd place & PAC-10 champ Pac-10 champ beat B1G champ Beat Bama who beat SWC champ Beat Miami who beat ACC champ & Big 8 Champ who beat AP #1 Better than record indicated.
My take is that the ‘86 Sugar Bowl romp of Miami remains the greatest win in school history. All that team went through that season to win the SEC and then just demolish the best team in the country. They at least have the greatest story.

Right, we just had to play one of the teams that played in the natty every season from 2006-now except 2014 and 2023. And playing both SECCG participants in 14 of those years.
This one upset some people 😂. If State played in the East during that time, we would have 130+ with multiple SEC championship game appearances. They didn't have to play prime Saban, LSU, and Auburn lucky years every season.
