The retina contains numerous cell types. To what extent are retinal cell types conserved across species that greatly differ in visual needs? Our new preprint attempts to shed light on this question by integrating single-cell transcriptomic data from 17 vertebrate species.

Current @NHMRC funding can't support excellence. In 2021 33% of NHMRC Ideas grants rated outstanding by international standards were unfunded. THe sector is now in crisis. We call on @ausgov to immediately double the @NHMRC budget to support careers + ensure a healthy future

Globally, average health + medical research grant funding success rate is 20-30%. In Australia it is just 9-14% for @NHMRC grant schemes. @ausgov needs to double annual NHMRC investment to provide sector stability + drive economic outcomes from translation #auspol #ausvotes2022
