Perspective check- I booked a commercial VO job with 1 year usage in specific places, and the recording session lasted 1 hour. That paycheck is equivalent to 250 hours of anime dubbing and the usage would be unlimited, anywhere in the world, forever and ever. 🥴🥴🥴.

There are a few good eggs in the industry! And I’m glad to be working for one of them! . I’ve witnessed a conscious effort to produce as many projects union as possible, and meet or exceed industry standard rates. Bonus- they treat their production staff well too 🥰.
Important clarification though - it's not all studios that are exploiting actors. Some studios like @iyunosdi are very actor-focused and fight hard for fair talent rates, union productions, and great working conditions. But many more are behind the times and need to do better.

@JoeySourlisVo Thanks to the Netflix Agreement, a lot of live action dubbing is union! . All dubbing should at LEAST meet those union rates. Unfortunately anime is the main “problem child”, paying the least and exploiting talent and staff the most. Ideally all dubbing rates can be elevated.

@MoreSamanthaMor If I want to cast someone remote, the audio team has to approve their audio quality (per project). And I’ve been receiving a TON of rejections lately! 😭. The truth is, “broadcast quality” today is not the same as the beginning of the panini. The technical bar has been raised.

The union allows nonunion talent to work a union job, that’s how an actor becomes eligible to join!.
