Today, I can finally say we went full circle. From being a patient to being accepted into radiation oncology!
Thank you to my support system, family, mentors, friends, and especially
@MollyAlam
.
To my fellow cancer thrivers, this one is for you.
Still reeling from the news about
@TaniguchiMD
. He was the best of us. A remarkable soul whose selflessness and kindness touched many, myself included. CT loved a good tweetorial, so in seeking words, I'll share memories of him.

Humbled to be nominated by our great students and inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society
@UTSWSurgeryLife
as one of the resident inductees. I promise to keep providing patient-centered and humanistic care everyday.
The world seems very dark without CT. It's hard to imagine moving forward, but his influence shaped me profoundly. I'm committed to upholding his legacy of kindness and curiosity. I invite you all to share your memories of him. Thank you for everything, Sensei.
@JAbiJaoude
He had a quick wit and a knack for saying just the right thing. 'It's all part of the master plan,' he'd say. His humor and wisdom were his gifts to us. CT elevated everyone around him, without asking for anything in return. Above anything else he believed in "good people”
CT took me under his wing as a clueless medical student from across the world and made sure we had family here in the US. He believed in me and
@JAbiJaoude
like no one did and always made sure we were well supported, fed, and had everything we need to excel.
@JAbiJaoude
Since meeting him for the first time, he had a presence to him. He can uplift any room with his infectious energy. His face lit up when talking about his family, his famous brisket, or his love for mitochondria. Food was truly his love language, but he was a storyteller at heart.
@JAbiJaoude
He had ideas for days and he'd giggle with excitement over fresh data or papers, always urging us to 'think bigger' without fretting about the 'how.' His red pen on our papers was enlightening, revealing his fondness for detail and, notably, Oxford commas.
From his quirky interests to his endless efforts to make us laugh, CT was one of a kind. He loved all sorts of things especially a good DJ Khaled GIF. I feel a tremendous void in his absence and Im sure many of his mentees do to.

While the use of PMWs might contribute to better quality (abiding by CONSORT...) their disproportionate use among industry funded successful trials raises questions of potential COI and spin. We call for continued and increased reporting of the funding, use, and role of PMWs

A must listen. Are we overhyping PFS? Does it matter clinically to patients who want to live longer (OS) and better(QoL)? Long story short, patients don’t really care about an arbitrary number that does not always translate to their care expectations.

+ points for including them on the manuscript!
I would like to share the story of how a patient with cancer came up with the idea for a randomized trial, & how listening to him saved a lot of lives.
1/ In 2002, I had just completed a randomized trial with the notorious drug thalidomide for the cancer, multiple myeloma.
This ER doctor saved many lives following Beirut's port explosion.
Disillusioned, she is now leaving Lebanon behind, joining hundreds of other health care workers who've migrated since 2019.

Obviously, this

Interestingly, the use of PMWs increased significantly over time (OR=1.11, p <.001)

The morning you die, I don’t want to be there — like most mornings now, when I rise against my will and crawl dejectedly into scrubs. I don’t want to be a plague doctor or a hero on TV. I look for hope and find none, but I’m not allowed to admit to total free fall.
