🇬🇧🇺🇸Glad to be back in @TheCriticMag today with my @Prosperity_Inst colleague @_Sarah_Elliott The easiest way to make sense of the Trump administration talking about saving Britain is this: they really mean it.

It appears @krishk blocked me for this one. Sadly I will miss out on him running evangelical containment for the status quo whilst presenting himself as somehow bold and countercultural.

.@krishk - Is that seriously all you have to say? How can a public intellectual be so obtuse? A galling embarassment for British evangelicals that one of our most public voices is so performatively incurious about the sectarian divides in our country. What is the point of you?

They've never been that funny, but they will become even less funny in the new politics. A throwback to an bygone age of shared culture and politics that is now gone, Blackadderish schoolboy chuckling as the country goes to the dogs.

If your society is less WEIRD, then politics becomes less about economic doctrine & coherent visions of the national interest & more about communal interests, sectarian deal-making and ethnic peacekeeping. This is what politics looks like across great swathes of the world.

The point about Greens becoming a party of immigrant sectarianism rather than nice white hippies & NIMBYs in the shires is that it reflects the inevitable future in a multicultural society, because coherent political ideologies are basically a WEIRD thing.

Bend it like Beckham is a nice film, but did it really represent British multiculturalism, or was it a representation of what some people wanted multiculturalism to be? By the 1990s, Ray Honeyford had been hounded out of teaching for warning about Islamic extremism in schools.
