The Online Safety Act is putting conditions on our ability to exchange legal information online. Controls designed for pornography are already affecting political discussion, as well as non political speech, see r/cider and volunteer-run forums closing down because of the laws.

No this is flat wrong, this is just arguing for more competent authoritarianism. Regulating speech should not be a matter of scaling trusted infrastructure and technology which complies with GDPR. It is a binary choice between freedom or tyranny.
the lesson here is not that UK shouldn’t impose age verification per se — I can see args for/against — but that you build & scale widely adopted, privacy-preserving identity infra before you regulate this way. it’s trivial today to create trusted, private credentials — eg ‘over.
