I assume this is a step to reduce the complexity for organisers by simplifying the major into a single offline setting in one host city. But man, it kills opportunities for surprise runs. Better start grinding those VRS points.

I guess this is the end - I haven't been involved with Classic Offensive in almost 6 years but it's sad to see a project that was formative in my first years mapping die like this. Kudos to @ZooL_Smith for documenting the project and pushing for it's success for so many years.
