We have been made aware of Nintendo's plans to shut down Nintendo Network in April. We have begun discussing our development road map internally to accommodate this
As of early April 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end service for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software. Thank you very much for your continued support of our products.

Now that Nintendo Network has shut down, we are finally able to announce our latest project: SSSL! This allows Wii U's the ability to have limited access to Pretendo WITHOUT homebrew, using only DNS changes! For more information see our full blog post:

Xenia (a Xbox 360 emulator) throwing out a warning accusing you of piracy if it detects ISO files, a DISC IMAGE FORMAT, is the funniest thing i've seen all day
The official deadline for Nintendo Network has been announced. We will do everything we can in this time!
For those wanting to help the project, consider helping us crowdsource network dumps for games!

As a preview for our yearly public beta coming up in December, we have decided to open up Wara Wara Plaza to the public!
Join our Discord server for the full details on what this means and how to connect!
Tonight we are happy to announce that Minecraft: Wii U Edition is officially open to the public! For now only playing with friends in private worlds/minigames is supported, due to some safety concerns, but we hope to bring public minigames back soon as well! Happy mining! ⛏️
To be clear, we are aware that various parts of Nintendo Network are still online (even the game servers!)
This was meant to be in surprise/jest at seeing Nintendo still maintain the old services :)
If any community, speedrunning or not, is in a situation like this where historic data will be lost, please feel free to reach out
We have already helped archive other games historic data, such as Super Mario Maker, and are interested in trying to help other communities as well!
@PretendoNetwork
The Mario and Sonic speedrunning community will loose a lot of their leaderboards, as it is still used for competition. Also London 2012 for 3DS, Sotchi 2014 for Wii U and Rio 2016 for 3DS and Wii U. They work atm to preserve the official leaderboards. (1/2)
As of today, our initial scan of Super Mario Maker has finished. We now have a complete archive of all data accessible from the game (as of today). As new data is uploaded and changed we will keep this up to date! Also check Team 0% for more SMM projects!
3 days until the Nintendo Network shutdown! Heres an update on our network dumps crowd sourcing effort:
We've gathered a total of 2,028 dumps with data for 55 of 80 WiiU & 123 of 359 3DS games!
Thank you to everyone helping out 💜 See here for more info:
7 days until the Nintendo Network shutdown!
During these final moments, don't forget to submit some network dumps as you play! An updated spreadsheet noting which games we are missing dumps for can be found here:
Due to Nintendo’s refusal to release patches for WiiU titles affected by the recently disclosed RCE exploits, we are officially releasing our own set of security patches which fix these exploits in multiple games
Stay safe!
With just 2 weeks left until the Nintendo Network shutdown, we'd like to remind everyone that we are still accepting submissions for network dumps for all games on both consoles! For those interested, see our guide at
(Full announcement attached)
We have an important announcement to make with regards to the shutdown of Nintendo Network. It appears that new users are no longer play online in *any* game
Details in our latest blog post. Please take the time to read
Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is officially going online! This game is currently in closed beta, as there’s quite a few kinks left to work out, but development is underway!
#3ds
The Wii U account settings app is now officially supported! You can now change user data, including country and region, from the Wii U
*Note this is not compatible with SSSL! You will need the latest release of Inkay to access the app*
@RetroRaji
Due to the way Nintendo Network is structured the friends list will always need to be online and reachable in order to use any other title online. Pokemon Bank has been stated to remain online indefinitely, which would require the friends server to also remain online indefinitely
We are happy to announce our next round of server rollouts! Joining us now are Mario Kart 7 & Kid Icarus: Uprising, both available to the public, with Tri Force Heroes in beta testing! See for how to get started, and join our Discord for more information!

Our plans are always to release the servers to everyone for free once they are stable enough for wide spread use. We currently have a small number of public game servers already
2 exciting updates for 3DS users today! We have officially begun sending out 3DS notifications, as well as enabled StreetPass Relay! For detailed information on the features, as well as some disclaimers, see our full blogpost here
Sadly we were wrong about this being an honest mistake. Despite saying otherwise, Nintendo HAS ended free plays in Badge Arcade
That being said, we have already begun work on reving Badge Arcade on Pretendo!
See our full post about this on Mastodon
[Nintendo Badge Arcade]
Nintendo has now officially confirmed that the Badge Arcade service was partially shut down on Mar 24.
Daily free plays will no longer be given out, and the badge catchers will not be rotated.
(thanks
@InternalLoss
)
Been seeing a lot of outlets cover this topic and only focus on the WiiU/NNID side
This effects the 3DS the most. Any 3DS that has not been setup, such as those being sold used and are factory reset, will never go online again with NN
This greatly harms the 2nd hand 3DS market

Details in our latest blog post. Please take the time to read
So far we've gotten a total of 1,520 network dumps, spanning 138 games across both consoles (38 Wii U, 100 3DS)!
Huge thanks to everyone lending a hand 💜 See our spreadsheet for games which still have no dumps!

As of today our winter beta is officially fully open! This includes Juxtaposition, our Miiverse replacement service!
Most games opened in November, with a select few waiting until December. Juxtaposition was delayed for technical reasons, but is now open!
In order to make interacting with our community more accessible, and to better provide support to users outside of social media/Discord, we have officially opened a dedicated forum for Pretendo!
Changing the Nintendo Network branding on the WiiU and 3DS has always been a goal when using our servers, as it adds to the overall immersion of the service, and with help from
@shutterbug20002
we are one step closer!
HUGE shout out to the amazing folks at Team 0%! They have OFFICIALLY completed ALL existing Super Mario Maker 1 courses, with just over 2 weeks to spare!
WE DID IT! SUPER MARIO MAKER 1 IS COMPLETED! 'The Last Dance' was the final level, beaten by
@Yamada_SMM2
.
Much love to everyone who supported us on this journey. GG!
We kindly ask you not to harass anyone over the situation. ...
Many people have reached about about archiving games data such as leaderboard rankings, levels, etc. In an effort to make this task easier, we have started rolling out a collection of archival tools for the community to use AND add new games to :)
Some of you may have noticed that Super Mario Maker on Nintendo Network has been throwing 106-0502 quite a lot lately. The earliest instances we have found are December 8th. The reason for this is seems to be a configuration issue on Nintendo's side. A thread. (1/6)
@GameXplain
Hopefully things won't completely die! We are adjusting our development schedule to accommodate this shut down to hopefully get things out sooner

Alongside Nintendo Network,
#NintendoBadgeArcade
will be shutting down. If you own over 1,000 badges / 100 categories, here's how to save your COMPLETE collection before the servers go down. (1/2)
We have an amazing announcement to make!
Earlier this week, Pretendo has officially reached its monthly funding goal! This means we are now able to have someone working on Pretendo *FULL TIME*!!
Expect many more updates in the future!
Our Animal Crossing: New Leaf Dream Suite archive is now available on the Internet Archive! This data is now available to the public, and we will eventually be hosting a separate "snapshot" instance of our AC:NL server using this historical data!
Small QOL updates to announce today! We have successfully tracked down 2 key issues with Wara Wara Plaza! We now know why some users were unable to download it at all, and why Mii's were not under their communities. Both fixes should be out soon for testers :)
Before and after!
Introducing Pretendo Medals, an experimental new in-development feature to bring PSN/XBL style trophies/achievements to the WiiU!
Check out our announcement on Discord for more information!
This is not within our scope of support, but we wanted to highlight some work one of our team members, Dani, has been working on for Dragon Quest X!
Shoutout to all of Dani’s work, for both us and other projects!
Today is our first attempt at trying 2 hour rotations in Splatoon! These kinds of changes are experimental, and subject to change, so please report any issues you may experience!
June's end brings exciting updates and future plans for us! Check out our latest blog post for details on server library improvements, game updates (including Smash & Pokemon), and more
Thank you everyone for your support and patience! 💜
We now have a guide for helping archive SpotPass content! We also now have a spreadsheet of games which still need archiving! Please see our new docs for more information 💜
There have been some positive updates regarding our last blog post about the issues with Nintendo Network, and some info on some other issues we had not yet talked about publicly (one of which is also now fixed)
Our full update blog post can be found here
SpotPass (BOSS) status update! We now have information for:
3DS - 315 of 429 titles
Wii U - 65 of 702 titles
If you'd like to help towards the cause, see our spreadsheet of titles and our guide for how to submit data!
Over the past few days, we have been rewriting several internal libraries for better stability. As a result of this, we have *almost* reached compatibility with some non-Nintendo Network games made by Ubisoft :D
This is due to them using nearly identical game server backends
Rev those engines and load your ink!
Due to Nintendo taking down MK8 and Splatoon, with no word on when they will come back online, we have decided to open up those games on our servers to the public as a small beta!
For more info visit us on Discord!
Our yearly public beta has officially begun to roll out early this year! We have just released 7 new servers for public testing!
See our longer announcement with more details on our Discord server!
Team 0% is in the final stretch to beating every Super Mario Maker 1 course! And on Mar10 Day!
If anyone out there is a skilled Mario Maker player, please consider helping out their cause!
For those wanting to make backups of the Dream Worlds from Animal Crossing: New Leaf before the shutdown, we have updated our archiver tools repo to add an archiver!
Shout out to CTGP-7 and their community! We're honored our tools/research help power their network, and the testing they've done has helped us improve the stability of our servers as well!
As of today, our initial scan of Super Mario Maker has finished. We now have a complete archive of all data accessible from the game (as of today). As new data is uploaded and changed we will keep this up to date! Also check Team 0% for more SMM projects!
Just wanted to share some awesome artwork from our public beta! Not only are our Splatoon and Mario Kart servers up, but our Miiverse replacement Juxt is too! Hop on the Discord server and join the fun!
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the Wii U, we have a 𝗦𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁 coming up! The theme this time around is Handheld vs Home consoles!
The fest is set to run from the 17th to the 19th, to celebrate the anniversary on the 18th.
For more info,
Some WiiU games, such as Mario Kart 8, disconnect clients who aren’t moving, ending the match. This can cause issues during local development
The only sane solution, of course, is learning to play 2 consoles at once with your feet
Little late to the party. 3DS system update just released!
Do not update if you have not modded your 3DS yet, the currently used exploit BannerBomb3 has been patched!
All currently modded consoles are safe to update. There is no effect if already modded
Important announcement! We now have a way for users to help development through crowd sourcing network dumps! For more details, see our announcement in our Discord server and our new guide on our website!
Many users have asked about a list of games which need dumps! We have compiled a list of such games!
(several of these games already have submissions. This list is for games, in general, which dumps should be made for. Full announcement attached)
The largest congratulations to our good friends over at CTGP-7! This is a VERY well deserved milestone, for such a polished and amazing project
We hope you reach even higher heights 👏👏🎉
@kangkomeji
This affects Citra as well. Regardless of personal stance of Yuzu, this is a massive blow to the emulation scene in general. It’s created a lot of uncertainty and unrest with many
Please note that while we believe this project to be safe/trustworthy, this SpotPass Archival project is not officially affiliated with us. There should be no issues submitting data to this project, however our official guide can be found on our website
By contributing the SpotPass data from your 3DS or Wii U systems, we can archive the SpotPass data from many 3DS and Wii U games such as Mario Kart, StreetPass Mii Plaza and Pokémon, and eventually allow them to be used on replacement servers like
@PretendoNetwork
