Support the strike! Stay true to your role during industrial action. Undertaking colleagues' responsibilities weakens the impact of the strike. 💪

Excellent post from Jen 0’Sullivan: “Set for Variability is not optional. It’s a vital part of skilled reading. And it may help explain why some children still struggle even after receiving strong phonics instruction.” https://t.co/FUobQZiXEi

I was at the Jamie Oliver parliamentary event in the documentary on behalf of Nessy Learning. I am grateful for Jamie’s passion but the event & the doc promote myths such as visual difficulties & ‘dyslexic thinking” & leave out ⛰️s of research on early literacy.😔 See thread.
This latest in a series of school crusades from Jamie Oliver is bad news for both the profession and - more importantly - those who find learning to read most difficult. >>

I appreciate that there are organisations that sell seemingly empowering messages about dyslexia being a strength or a gift, but this is, I'm afraid, well-meaning hokum. >>

I am sure Oliver has good intentions. But struggling readers and the schools who serve them deserve better than being told what to do by someone who apparently hasn't engaged with even the most readily available research on this subject (e.g. the Delphi Study). >>

Often people will say to me, “I’m doing the science of reading! I’m using UFLI!!” While UFLI is an outstanding program, it is important to remember that there isn’t one single program that contains all of the elements needed for reading and writing proficiency. Instead of
