Finally started messing with this. It was DEFINITELY made by a Darius fan, which is obviously a good thing. Game isn't hard by STG standards (which is clearly by design) but I am enjoying it. Also I like the look of the MC.

The actual answer is that most nintendo fans grew up and explored games outside of nintendo, giving them a far better frame of reference for what they do and do not like in games rather than it being some grand conspiracy against Nintendo
