Why is this important? While the lit has predominantly argued that thin features of populism are not as relevant as the thick ones, we show how this appeal depends on the voter’s profile. We focused on age and subjective social decline👪 but for sure more factors are in play. 5/5

Now, we also show that ideology plays a significant mediating role, as young pessimists on the left tend to be attracted by anti-elitism, while those on the center-right by people-centrism. 4/5

We find that, unlike older generations, for whom immigration is the most relevant factor in vote choice, Generation Z, especially the young who are pessimistic about their economic prospects, focuses more on the thin ideological elements of populism. 3/5

We assess how thin and thick ideological features of a populist party influence the youth vote and if poor economic prospects (I will be less well off than my parents) increase the attraction to populism among the youth and how it interacts with the thin/thick division. 2/5
