A decent count of 12 Small Copper butterflies on Healey Nab in Chorley today. Good to see them starting to bounce back after having such a terrible year in 2024 @BC_Lancs @chorleynats

Plenty of much needed rain during todays #WeBS count of the Rivington and Anglezarke reservoir complex. The water levels are the lowest I've ever seen. Small numbers of Teal and Tufted Duck and a single Common Sandpiper were the highlights. @WeBS_UK @chorleynats

An estimated 11-12.5 million cats in the UK. If each 1 takes just 6 wild birds pa, that's circa 70 million wild birds killed. This shows the issue when 1 finds a #Nightjar nest on a site I monitor in #Norfolk Nothing to add 🤬🤬@_bto @BBCSpringwatch @Natures_Voice @BBCLookEast

Time for a blanket ‘Dogs On Short Leads at All Times.’ Our countryside is being treated like a dog park. Those farming & managing land shouldn’t be expected to police this any longer. The verbal abuse, stress & sheer frustration is unacceptable. It’s so simple a solution

This picture depicts a devastating scene that conservationists are seeing up and down the country this breeding season. Lots of hard work is going into protecting these birds; working with farmers, landowners, and collaboration with other conservation groups. We are now

Worrying to see invasive rhododendron plants starting to appear on Anglezarke Moor. Possibly seeded from the rhododendrons that are swamping the native vegetation on nearby Stronstrey Bank. @unitedutilities @Lancswildlife @NaturalEngland

Forget No Mow May, it's silage cutting season in Britain! Look out for macerated hares, grass snakes, nesting waders and other wildlife. Mowing heavily-fertilised fields in May for silage is a relatively recent thing. It's been going on in Britain for perhaps forty years. In

.@unitedutilities Dismayed to hear about tree felling work being carried out at the north end of Anglezarke reservoir today. Why on earth is this happening during peak bird nesting season, when nests with eggs or young will almost certainly have been destroyed?

Toad patrols do make a difference. When the Belmont toad patrol first started 8 years ago, we'd only get 50 or so toads during a spring migration. Last year we had 600, 241 saved on Saturday night, with sadly over 100 killed by the boy racers @froglifers @LenPoxon @bandbswifts

@unitedutilities I agree, Neville, the @unitedutilities staff can't be expected to deal with the levels of anti-social behaviour that goes on up there. Especially during the summer months when people are camping, barbecuing, swimming, boating, etc, on and around the reservoirs

“The government is therefore pleased to confirm that we will be moving ahead with a new GCSE in natural history.” This is excellent news & Ministers are to be warmly congratulated. Well done @curlewcalls on relentlessly making the case for this. https://t.co/VJuAPnMzWG

.@LancRuralPolice @unitedutilities @Lancswildlife Apologies for the poor quality video, but should this helicopter have been flying so low over Anglezarke moor today? It appeared to land briefly. Hugely disturbing for the wildlife, especially so close to the breeding season.

Are we really a nation of nature lovers? I mean deep down, in a personal, committed way? Or is the UK's renowned ‘love’ for nature more conceptual and theoretical than out there in the real world? Thread 1/8 👇
