In a world that sometimes seems full of awfulness, King Charles this week shone a beacon of hope at his ‘Harmony Summit’. I found it to be a powerful gathering, full of inspiration, if we can only see things differently (as so many indigenous peoples do).

Dartmoor is hot & dry. Fire risk high & great caution needed. In adapting to climate shifts we might wish to expand temperate rainforests there & elsewhere. The open moorland is tinder dry. Rainforest 200 metres away is cool & relatively moist & at lower risk of combustion.

While those opposed to climate action cite alleged high costs, the OBR says it’s much lower than thought, & much cheaper than the costs of inaction. Also note that part of the ‘cost’ cited by sceptics is down to loss of petrol taxes as we move to EVs! .

Big news. At @coolearth we are taking our model of direct support for indigenous rainforest communities into the Colombian Amazon. Making a positive impact for people, Nature & climate all at once, & at low cost.

Hearing a lot lately that since the UK emits only 1% of greenhouse gases that we shouldn’t bother cutting emissions. Truth is that over 90% of 195 nations in the Paris accord can make that same claim. We are not special. All countries must play an ambitious role & no time to lose.

Worth reading. Also worth remembering that a proportion of the recharge in the aquifer is from rain clouds that originate over the Amazon rainforest. If that ecosystem continues to shrink (to the point of potential collapse), so will food security in North America (& the world).
