IFSO statement@Lancet DE: Med-induced WL isn't a reason to delay bariatric surgery. Many stop meds due to cost, intolerance, or wanting a "definitive" fix. Clinicians must not wait for the predictable relapse of complications. The goal is sustained health, not temporary metrics

The BMI is a marker of total body mass and not a specific marker of adipose tissue mass. Relative fat mass #RFM is an alternative to BMI with superior performance of RFM in assessing cardiometabolic risk. https://t.co/fRtheAdZFd

Yes. Writing is not a second thing that happens after thinking. The act of writing is an act of thinking. Writing *is* thinking. Students, academics, and anyone else who outsources their writing to LLMs will find their screens full of words and their minds emptied of thought.

Hi everyone, We've just launched the first survey as part of a big international project looking at how surgeons make decisions when managing patients with obesity. This one focuses on laparoscopic cholecystectomy — an area where there's huge variation in practice,

@MichaelAlbertMD RCT (by providing free medications, weekly phone calls by research coordinators, incentives, etc) creates an ‘artificial environment’. That’s why in real world settings, weight loss that are reported in RCTs are not replicated. Our patients live in real world, not in RCT.

Higher HbA1c was associated with a lower likelihood of marked weight reduction Longer diabetes duration is associated with a lower glycaemic response to GLP-1 RAs
Significant heterogeneity in responses to GLP-1 RA therapy in type 2 diabetes in routine clinical practice. Large proportion achieve a reduction in either body weight or HbA1c. 40% no benefit https://t.co/gdXzsBHADA

I don’t understand the logic here. GLP-1s consistently deliver inferior outcomes compared to metabolic surgery across key domains: weight, blood pressure, obstructive sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, and MASLD/MASH. We already have robust outcome data—and in some cases, direct
@NeilFlochMD @MichaelAlbertMD In the era of GLP-1 meds it will be relegated, until a large RCT of GLP-1 versus surgery is done with 5 year follow-up showing https://t.co/dPL7webm69 should drive all of this. And I suspect the long term promise of GLP-1’s may have been slightly exaggerated for obvious reasons
