in comparison, using taperingstrips, at the current price of € 95/month, to taper gradually and hyperbolically as slowly as you wish, seems pretty cheap to me (info at https://t.co/98zilww3Qw)

There are no randomised trials showing a relationship between cigarettes smoked and lung cancer - these are based on surveys. A survey is a reasonable way to see a duration-response effect and it was strong and backed up by other studies. odd to argue against really

Shaving tablets or using other complicated methods to be able to gradually lower the dose is no longer necessary at all:

My beautiful husband shaving my 20mg Paroxetine tablet using a scalpel and scales so I can achieve a harm reduction hyperbolic taper. When I followed my doctor’s linear tapering advice after 30 yrs use I nearly died. It shouldn’t have to be this way…

The research community has forgotten that antidepressants are foreign chemical substances that change our biological and mental activity with potentially damaging effects. This means that research on the human costs of taking antidepressants has been woefully inadequate

noteworthy is the recognition that antidepressant are apparently not as safe as has long been told to us

Good to note risks of existing antidepressants (as the article does), but the quest to find safer ones will no doubt continue to expose pregnant women to ineffective and unnecessary chemicals

Because of careless prescription, many people (esp elderly) take too many meds at too high doses. Side effects now major cause of symptoms/complications. Deprescribing is crucial- but how get MDs/patients on board? Great int'l survey on patient views: https://t.co/8qj5uLFVCK

Sadly, many of the 'Psychiatric Associations' I've encountered around the world have been much more intent on protecting the guild interest of psychiatrists than in promoting the welfare of patients.

No benefit? Fine. "When I counsel patients on their antidepressant medication, I routinely ask, "Is this working for you?"...I often hear: "I guess it is, but then again, I don't really feel any different." ... that's not a bad answer for me to hear..."

My pleasure to interview @joannamoncrieff for @thetimes on her important views on how few of us -including docs who prescribe regularly - actually understand what antidepressants do to the brain or acknowledge they may be v harmful. Amazing how many just don’t want to hear this
