Multiple sources tell me Leader Kevin McCarthy says he plans to talk to freshman Rep. Madison Cawthorn over his orgy remarks
Told several House Rs stood up who were upset. They said it wasn’t ok, they don’t believe it, etc
👀 “What happens when Jordan forces us to the floor to try to pressure us and all of a sudden we don’t show up and Hakeem Jeffries is speaker cause he wanted to be a bully ?” one upset House Republican just texted me.
BACON (R-Neb.), a centrist, tells me: “If this remains the face of the GOP in 2024 we will get pummeled in the Presidential and Congressional elections.
We would have won more seats in 2022 but too many feared the extremes in the GOP even before this.“
Hold your head high LTC Vindman as you depart the White House NSC. You have served with honor and candor just as I saw in our two years in US Emb Moscow. To me, Alex, your principled stand was not partisanship but rather about right and wrong. Stand tall, stand proud!
#Vindman
Today, Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah) is expected to resign from his seat, further complicating Speaker McCarthy’s thin majority.
A general election for the seat will be held in late November.
NEWS: Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) was caught on camera pulling the Cannon fire alarm ahead of this motion to adjourn vote as Dems tried to delay the CR vote, multiple sources tell me.
We have reached out to him for comment - we haven't viewed footage ourselves.
I'd been told my multiple sources Rep, Gaetz wasn't included in the meetings happening right now between GOP leadership and dissenters.
He just came off the elevators, asked McHenry who was leaving, where they were taking place, and then tried to go through the wrong door.
!!My colleague Mike saw
@RepTedYoho
accost
@RepAOC
at Capitol today for her suggestion poverty & unemployment are driving NYC spike in crime amid COVID.
Yoho: "You are out of your freaking mind."
AOC told Yoho he was being "rude."
Then parting ways, Yoho said: "F*cking bitch."
NEWS: GOP Rep. Tom Rice tells me he regrets his vote against certifying President Joe Biden's electoral wins in the hours after the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.
He appears to be the 1st R in Congress to publicly say so.
(He later voted to impeach Trump.)
🚨NEWS: GOP Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) just introduced a resolution to censure Trump "for attempting to unlawfully overturn the 2020 Presidential election and for violating his oath of office on January 6th, 2021."
“I personally know 5 will change their votes from yes to no on second round. That’s what they told me. This will get worse,” one House member tells me just now.
NEW: Rep. Madison Cawthorn just left McCarthy’s office. He met with the GOP leader and Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) for roughly 30 minutes.
Cawthorn didn’t respond to my questions about the meeting as he was leaving.
NEW: Rep. Liz Cheney tells me her concession call to Harriet Hageman ended up being a "clear and direct" voicemail that she left before she went on stage last night, after trying multiple times to get in touch w/ her.
Cheney says she still has not heard anything back.
Taking it to a different level, Bacon tells me his wife even received multiple anonymous emails and texts from people over the past few days w/ implied message: vote Jordan or be booted
Here are a few she received.
New: Jordan's vocal GOP defectors during today's failed speaker vote said they felt pressure to back him by allies/district party bosses/conservatives influencers
And they saw it as a coordinated message: Vote for Jordan or else.
@jordainc
@sarahnferris
AOC said she has never experienced this before.
"That kind of confrontation hasn't ever happened to me — ever," she told Mike. "I've never had that kind of abrupt, disgusting kind of disrespect levied at me."
Approached a few hours later, Yoho declined to discuss the exchange.
Hear Rep. Steve Womack stood up, said he hardly ever stands to talk, he has to say something about this bc now he is getting Qs about which members partaking in orgies after Cawthorn suggested they are happening in DC along w/ the use of cocaine.
Told Cawthorn not there this am.
My hands are starting to shake. I can't fully relay right ow how fear is coursing through the House right now as the sound of gas masks are being unwrapped.
EXCLUSIVE: I’ve obtained audio from the Cheney campaign of the concession voicemail Rep. Liz Cheney’s left for Harriet Hageman last night.
The audio contradicts the narrative Hageman gave on Hannity tonight that she “didn’t address any kind of concession or anything else.”
NEW: Rep. Liz Cheney tells me her concession call to Harriet Hageman ended up being a "clear and direct" voicemail that she left before she went on stage last night, after trying multiple times to get in touch w/ her.
Cheney says she still has not heard anything back.
Asked Rep. Maxine Waters as she was walking onto the House floor about gop criticism of her recent trial remarks. She told me: “The judge said my words don’t matter.”
The judge said her comments may have given the defense a reason for appeal, per a verbate.
NEWS: MEMBERS of the U.S. Capitol Police have issued a statement to members of Congress expressing "profound disappointment" with McConnell and McCarthy's positions on the Jan. 6 commission, citing the "trauma" that officers endured that day.
McCarthy’s team laid out a compromise that would give in to nearly every demand expressed by the current defectors. Plan discusses everything from rules committee seats to house floor vote guarantees, a source familiar tells me.
At least two Republicans among McCarthy's 20 holdouts got direct threats from GOP donor Thomas Peterffy last week, per GOP sources I spoke with.
Here is a screenshot shared with me...
BAD timing for Dems w/ this article
Yermak, a top aide to Ukrainian President Zelensky, says they "never had that feeling” that US aid & investigations were connected.
"We did not have the feeling that this aid was connected to any one specific issue."
Newsy Nugget: In the candidate forum, Rep. Ken Buck asked both Scalise and Jordan if Trump won or lost the last election, per sources.
Multiple House Rs felt both equivocated. One said both “tried to have it both ways.” They argued how some states changed their laws bc covid…
NEW: Rep. Mo Brooks tells me he’s retiring from politics after the “bad guys won” — re. Katie Britt — beating him out for the Senate gop nomination in Alabama.
SCOOP: A group of House Republicans that strongly opposes Jim Jordan is vowing he'll have a challenger during the House floor speakership vote on Tuesday, two GOP members familiar w/ planning tell me.
No name decided upon just yet.
@AOC
also nodded to young candidates running for office.
"But I think it is really part of the larger question about who should run and how we should run and I think it is great. You can be young and run for office. You can have joy in life and run for office."
“Absolutely not,” said Rep. Ann Wagner, a Scalise ally, when I asked if she will support Jordan for speaker.
“Yesterday in conference, he gave the most disgraceful, ungracious – I can’t call it a concession speech – of all time. There were gasps in the room.”
Pelosi stmt on ouster vote: “Congresswoman Liz Cheney is a leader of great courage, patriotism and integrity. Today, House Republicans declared that those values are unwelcome in the Republican party.
McCarthy, asked if he wants to know the names of the individuals that Cawthorn suggested took part in the orgies and cocaine consumption, said Cawthorn told him:
He "thinks he saw maybe a staffer in a parking garage maybe 100 yards away and that he doesn't know what is."
CRENSHAW (R-Texas) on if it was a mistake to give 1/6 tapes to Tucker:
“I don't really have a problem with making it all public. But if your message is then to try and convince people that nothing bad happened, then it's just gonna make us look silly.”

Trump's message is airing right now in the safe room where I am.
Roughly, POTUS says: We know your pain. This was a fraudulent election, it was stolen from us, but we can't play into the hands of these people. We need peace.
Dem member shouts at TV: "Fuck you."
Just asked Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to confirm whether she denounced her previous remarks/embrace of conspiracy theories after telling her colleagues she did today.
Why say one thing publicly and make another stmt privately?
Asked why not say this publicly?
Wouldn’t reply
Growing GOP chatter/concern among some GOP members who may have to miss the speakership vote if it keeps dragging out due to various circumstances.
Have heard the names of three so far.
Thread x2
NEWS: Rep. Ann Wagner recalled another moment that lost Jordan her support.
She said Jordan told Scalise: “You get one ballot. And when you go down, you will nominate me.”
She said Scalise pushed back & Jordan replied: “America wants me.”
GOP staffer sent me this to highlight how drawn out speakership race is impacting offices: “The response we got when we tried to contact the IRS on behalf of one of our constituents. Not sure people realize the non-political ramifications this has on our ability to help folks.”
NEW: During GOP conference today, House Rs did about a 15-min fundraising auction for chapstick used by Speaker McCarthy.
The winner: Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), whose winning bid was $100,000, her Spox confirms to me.
Hmm.🧐
Rep. Nehls told me on 1/15 that the guards on the House floor would've been "totally justified" if they'd shot the rioters trying to enter the chamber.
Nehls had joined the USCP and several other House Rs in guarding the door from rioters trying to break in on 1/6.
Ashli Babbitt was shot on January 6th.
The Justice Department cleared Lt. Byrd on April 14th.
The Justice Department only spent 98 days on its review.
They had ZERO intention of thoroughly investigating her murder.
Rep. LESKO (R-Ariz.) announces plans to retire amid speakers fight.
“Spending, on average, three weeks out of every month away from my family, and traveling back and forth to Washington, D.C…is difficult. Right now, Washington, D.C. is broken; it is hard to get anything done.
BOEBERT just raised TRUMP CALLS, saying: Even having my "favorite president" call us and tell us that you need to "knock this off." She says it needs to be in the reverse and have him tell McCarthy you "do not have the votes, and it's time to withdraw."
Source familiar with Vindman’s closed doors deposition says he has testified that he took notes during the July 25th phone call, and made two or so recommended edits to the summarized call transcript that weren’t used in the end (ie using company in place of Burisma)
Rep. Liz Cheney says: "Tonight, I say this to my Republican colleagues who are defending the indefensible: There will come a day when Donald Trump is gone, but your dishonor will remain. "
👀 Peter Thiel, tech billionaire & GOP megadonor, has told associates he's not planning to donate to any political candidates in 2024, per Reuters.
Reports he's unhappy w/ GOP's focus on "hot-button" cultural issues like abortion and...
BUCK, after getting a special briefing on what the GOP investigations have found one Joe Biden:
“Their inquiry, formally announced by Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday, rests heavily on a fictitious version of Shokin’s career…”
ACTUALLY... here is a video of AG Barr and Gohmert.
While Barr arrived with a mask, it was off when he walked into the hearing room, so both men were not wearing masks at this time.
REP. BUCK tells me : "I have not signed the letter. I'm not going to sign the letter. I am not in favor of electing Jim Jordan speaker."
He said it was a "misunderstanding" because he "helped draft a letter during the last speaker vote."
The 8 say they are “prepared to accept censure, suspension or removal” from the conference in return for Jordan being elected speaker
But 🤔 at Rep. Buck who voted against Jordan for past 3 ballots
BUCK, a House Freedom Caucus member, says he is a “no” against Jordan.
Said he has some “big concerns” about Jordan including Ukraine funding and 2020 election
New: Intel Chair Schiff sent a letter today to acting DNI
@RichardGrenell
raising concern he is reorganizing w/o receiving congressional authorization. Asks him to produce info to committee by April 16.
LESKO, who announced she is retiring, told Jordan he should step down if he is
supporting the McHenry resolution.
Said if he were not speaker designee, he wouldn’t be supporting it and it seemed self serving to be able to campaign for months, sources tell me and

🚨🚨🚨Rep. Patrick MCHENRY (R-N.C.), chair of Financial Servcices, is expected to announce he won’t seek re-election today, though he plans to finish out the rest of his term, per multiple sources.
Liz Cheney told
@nicholaswu12
Rep. Kinzinger would be a “tremendous addition" to the 1/6 committee, though she said it is up to Pelosi.
And Cheney told me fmr
@RepRiggleman
"would be tremendous" as an outside aide to the probe, citing his work on online extremism.
Oh WOW — HFC Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn) is asking Speaker Johnson to formally open an inquiry into Intel Chair Mike Turner, a fellow R, claiming he was “reckless” in the way he approached publicly raising concern about a national security threat this week
SCOOP: House Freedom Caucus tensions have flared to the point that some members are floating the idea of purging colleagues from their group.
Some are signaling one target of the ejection request is Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene as well as inactive members.
What. A. Quote.
“This is like OJ and the white Bronco. Everybody’s watching…waiting for something to happen at 40 mph,” GOP Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) tells me.
