Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Altrincham and Sale West for
@Conservatives
| Promoted by Oliver Carroll of the Thatcher Suite, Denzell House, WA14 4QE
A pleasure to join the Home Secretary
@JamesCleverly
at South Manchester Synagogue in Bowdon yesterday evening.
There has been an unacceptable increase in antisemitism on our streets - we stand resolutely with our Jewish friends and neighbours against this vile racism.
NI contributions are not hypothecated.
There is no £46bn tax cut.
Rachel Reeves knows these things, but is actively misleading voters.
No plan for the country so they’re scraping the barrel. Dismal.
National Insurance Contributions fund state pensions and the NHS.
So will the Prime Minister’s £46 billion of unfunded tax cuts come from cutting state pensions or cuts to our NHS?
#PMQs
I will stand up for our Grammar and High Schools, and parents' rights to send children to a school of their choice. That's why I met with the Education Secretary
@GillianKeegan
this week to tell her about parents' concerns over pressures on local school places.
Labour are lying to voters over National Insurance.
But that shouldn’t come as a surprise - they have nothing to offer the country other than half-baked untruths.
Just heard Jonathan Ashworth on
@TimesRadio
say people pay NICs to create a pension pot for their retirement.
He either has no clue how the system works, or is being deliberately misleading - not sure which is worse.
20 years later... wonderful to be back at Well Green Primary school to talk to Year 6!
Lovely to see my old Head Teacher Mrs Markham and hear about what's been going on at Well Green - still a brilliant school, and many happy memories for me!
Out today talking to residents about their local and national concerns with
@BroadheathKC
Cllr Dr Kaushik Chakraborty and team - lots of residents happy to see us (despite the drizzle...)
Thank you to all the residents who came to Ringway Golf Club this afternoon for a delicious lunch, and to quiz me on all things political ahead of what will be an exciting year for Altrincham and Sale!
Warm reception on the doors this chilly morning in Sale. Fantastic support for our local plan and our brilliant councillor Dr Chakraborty
@BroadheathKC
Great morning on the doorstep in Sale with
@SusanBaroness
and our fantastic councillors
@RobDuncanM33
@Rupali_Paul02
@NathanEvansTeam
and Cllr John Holden!
Lots of support for our local plan for Altrincham and Sale - and lots of disgust for Labour councillors awarding…
This morning I attended a moving remembrance service at Chapel Street in Altrincham. George V referred to it as the ‘bravest little street in England’ - from just 60 terraced houses, 161 men enlisted, with many killed on the battlefield in WW1. We will remember them.
Oh dear. Can’t believe we have to keep saying this… there is no such thing as Tory government money. There is only taxpayers’ money.
And it would be nice if it wasn’t wasted on pointless vanity projects.
.
@OliverJCarroll
Dear prospective MP candidate - Please can you clarify why you think the money for the lovely Stretford deckchairs was paid for by yourself and the good people of Altrincham and Sale (given the money came from the Tory government)
Thank you to the hundreds of residents who stopped to speak in Hale village today - lots of enthusiasm for our positive vision for Altrincham and Sale, and great to meet so many new friends supporters!
One of the best things about standing for Parliament in my home town is meeting so many passionate young people. So a big thank you to Year 5 and 6 at
@HalePrepSchool
for all their excellent questions today - it was a pleasure coming to visit, and to speak to students and staff.…
Today I appeared before the HS2 Select Committee with
@NathanEvansTeam
to make the case for Hale and Hale Barns residents' right to be heard in opposition to the planned construction route through residential streets.
Watch the whole hearing here:
Inevitable, but too little, and too late.
Labour has shown its true colours. Willing to park what is right - by its own standards - at the altar of political expediency.
Now it is time for anyone who campaigned for this antisemite to apologise to the Jewish community. That…
This Holocaust Memorial Day, I joined
@HaleCivicSoc
in laying flowers and shoes in remembrance of the horrors of the holocaust.
We must continue to remember, to ensure that our past mistakes are never repeated.
Thank you to Marks and Spencer Hale for donating flowers, and to…
£500,000 wasted on a pointless cycle lane.
A centuries-old church at the heart of Altrincham threatened, and our roads remain in disrepair.
Meanwhile, Trafford Labour and Green councillors award themselves a 40% pay rise for the pleasure.
You couldn’t make it up.…
Fantastic News for North Cestrian!
The former Loreto Prep site has now been designated as an Asset of Community Value, meaning that it will be harder for it to be sold off for housing development.
This brilliant news is the product of the hard work of the Hamblin Trust and North…
Out this morning for some pre-⚽️ doorstep conversations with
@BroadheathKC
Cllr Dr Kaushik Chakraborty - great speaking to local residents (including bets on the Lionesses’ chances...)
More antisemitism from Labour - this time their parliamentary candidate for the Rochdale by-election. He should be disowned by Labour immediately - and by anyone who has been campaigning for this man to enter parliament.
Fantastic to be on Carrington Moss today with
@FriendsMoss
- talking about the threats to this precious area which is vital in our fight against climate change.
I am determined to protect this incredible green space for future generations.
Great to meet so many residents in Bowdon on Friday who braved the rain to quiz us on all matters national and local. A pleasure to speak to so many new supporters alongside our brilliant local councillors
@phileckersley_
@Shengke4Bowdon
, and the formidable
@lhancock4bowdon
!
This morning
@NathanEvansTeam
and I wrote to Sir Richard Leese and Paul Dennett seeking urgent answers on the future of Altrincham Minor Injuries Unit. The people of Altrincham deserve our much-needed hospital to be fully re-opened.
It was a real pleasure to meet Mr Rainey, Principal of
@StAmbroseColl
this afternoon - a brilliant school serving children across Altrincham and Sale, which I am proud to see going from strength to strength.
@PrincipalSAC
This week I’ve been out in Ashton on Mersey with the team. Another productive evening tonight. Huge dissatisfaction with Labour’s mismanagement of Trafford Council on near enough every doorstep.
Would YOU sunbathe on 'Stretford Beach'? Cash-strapped Labour led council baffles locals by building Benidorm-style sun loungers - overlooking a dual carriageway
Fantastic to welcome back Old Alt Oliver Carroll, who is the Conservative Candidate to replace Sir Graham Brady as MP for Altrincham & SW at the next General Election. Oliver gave a fascinating talk about his journey to being a prospective MP and issues affecting our constituency
It may make the left of the Labour Party feel good - but class warfare in education will only lead to an even deeper school places crisis here in Altrincham and Sale.
And Trafford Council proudly say they will not even engage with independent schools to assess the impact of…
Altrincham Town Hall is saved!
We were all shocked at Trafford Council’s threat to sell off Altrincham Town Hall.
But thanks to thousands of local residents joining us in petitioning to save it, Trafford have awarded the lease of Altrincham Town Hall to Oyez Arts - a nascent…
The recent rise in antisocial behaviour and crime at Altrincham Interchange is unacceptable.
Today I met with the station supervisor along with
@DanBarker4GM
and
@JackLopresti
to discuss what is needed to put a stop to the ongoing threats to staff, criminal damage, and disorder…
Switching political party as a sitting MP should trigger a by-election.
The integrity call here, would be for
@LeeAndersonMP_
to resign and fight one under his new party ASAP. Ideally to coincide with the May Local Elections.
Simon, you are a local councillor. You will (or should..) therefore know full well that two motions/proposals can seek the same outcomes by different means. Stop misleading people - your residents deserve better.
If you want the facts - here is a good impartial summary.…
Another year of fantastic results for our schools! We must protect our unique and diverse school system - grammars, high schools, faith schools, and independents - which delivers for our young people and punches well above its weight , year after year.
Fantastic to visit
@DT_AoMSchool
yesterday - an inspiring school and a key part of Altrincham and Sale’s unique and precious education system.
I will consistently stand up for our schools, and parents’ rights to choose the best school for their children.
Mr Kapur and Mr McConaghie had the opportunity to meet Oliver Carroll
@OliverJCarroll
today. Thank you for visiting our school, it was great to show you around.
Fantastic evening in Altrincham - buzzing town centre for the Christmas lights switch on. Well done and thanks to
@AltrinchamBID
for all the hard work!
Currently in Trafford we have on several major regen schemes funded from external funding.
Being one of the lowest funded councils in the UK and having lost £288 million because of govt cuts since 2010.
We focus resources on securing this funding,
Despite the Twitter narrative water conservation has actually been one of the Tories greatest successes.
They brought in the best monitoring in Europe to get the data. Once they had the data they made policy and that policy will lead to an additional £96bn of capex by 2030.
Everyone's fed up with the potholes.
Council tax is set to go up yet again. 4.99% are the propsals in Labour's budget ( Wednesday night).
No doubt so Labour can pay for the beach in Stretford and their 40% payrise...give the residents strength 🙄
6,900 households in Altrincham and Sale West will receive a £300 cost of living payment from today.
I know that things are tough for many households in Altrincham and Sale - so I’m glad that the government is going what it can, with limited taxpayer money, to help out.
Not every political choice is about spending more or less. We can and should make choices to innovate, create efficiency, and deliver better services for less.
That's what local Conservatives are fighting for here in Altrincham and Sale, on residents' most important issue: our…
🚨BREAKING: Inflation falling. Wages rising. Taxes cut.
@RishiSunak
’s plan is working.
We’re sticking with it to deliver a brighter future for everyone.
This is pretty outrageous given Burnham wants to bulldoze some of our few remaining green spaces here in Altrincham and Sale West. Spending taxpayers' money to bring derelict green areas back into use, whilst desecrating a peat moss? Madness.
Andy’s Campaign Pledge: Andy will continue and extend the Green Spaces Fund which has supported over 80 community initiatives to bring unused or derelict green areas back into use for local people.
We have a fantastic candidate in
@DanBarker4GM
who will show that there is an alternative to the virtue-signal-first-fail-later politics of Andy Burnham. Looking forward to the year ahead 💪
📢 ANNOUNCED: A new ban on climbing war memorials will be introduced under the Criminal Justice Bill.
Disrespecting the memory of our national heroes will not be tolerated. Those charged could face:
⚖️ Up to three months in prison
💷 A £1,000 fine
This is the effect of the Gorsey Lane traffic scheme
#Altrincham
- a diversion to St Margaret's and a line of 5 parked busses. His is before parents arrive in cars.
Affecting 100s of residents!
All for a requested crossing!

A front bench would-be cabinet minister, sharing the stage with Labour’s disgraced candidate… after he made his antisemitic comments.
The ‘changed’ Labour Party, Ladies and Gents.
Great to welcome the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology
@michelledonelan
to Altrincham this afternoon.
Fascinating visit to Altrincham-headquartered
@InformedTweet
Informed Solutions - a brilliant example of what Britain does best: high skilled, high tech…
It was fantastic to speak to hundreds of residents in Hale Barns who are concerned about these proposals on Thursday night, together with
@NathanEvansTeam
and our hard working local councillors. We will be petitioning Parliament to seek amendments to
#HS2
’s plans.
HS2 has submitted revised plans which have significant implications for Trafford, particularly in Hale Barns and Timperley South ward where they are proposing to build a new junction 6 of the M56.
Details on the scheme can be found here
Plans to concrete over Carrington Moss are appalling, ill thought through and ecologically disastrous. Our peat moss is irreplaceable. Proponents of this plan in the Labour Party - and anywhere else - should have the humility to admit to its flaws and think again.
Residents should have had a seat at the table – not just the opportunity to comment on someone else's apocalyptic 17-year plan that will have a extremely damaging impact on our communities (both human & wildlife).
As for accepting the outcome - the process is not yet over!
Great afternoon talking to residents in Timperley. Lots of anger at the contempt shown to our town by Trafford Labour councillors awarding themselves a 40% pay rise whilst our roads crumble - and lots of support for our positive plan for Altrincham and Sale.
Absolutely right. Another bad idea from Sue Gray. The growth in ALBs and similar structures over decades has increased disenchantment in politics and resulted in the alienation of the people we seek to serve.
The
@HouseofCommons
is a ‘citizens assembly’ I suppose. Perhaps it might be a reasonable place for such deliberations, rather than subcontracting out responsibility to unaccountable bodies.
Beautiful morning in Ashton on Mersey yesterday - lovely christmassy performance from Wellfield school pupils before warming up at St Martin's church hall. No luck on the tombola despite my best efforts!
NEW: Labour will introduce citizens' assemblies to decide contentious issues, such as Lords reform and housebuilding
Sue Gray has told
@TomBaldwin66
of the “transformational” success of bodies in Ireland that built consensus for constitutional change
Quite right
@phileckersley_
- our local high streets need the support of a council which understands the needs of small business locally. Not one that is hell-bent on making it harder to get into and around our town centre.
It's a good policy that the majority support. The Council would benefit and small businesses would benefit. There are indirect advantages of the free after three, and free parking schemes, which I outlined in my motion speech at council. More should be done in Trafford on this.
@RegWhispers
@ShalomNatalie
@SusanBaroness
@LauraEvansTeam
There’s no such thing as a Conservative bubble - I take no area or voter for granted. I am regularly canvassing residents in all areas of the constituency - today I was in Sale West, Ashton, Hale, and Hale Barns. Hope that answers your serious question!
They now want
@TraffordCouncil
to fund the purchase of the site to help North Cestrian expand - and alleviate the school place shortage in
#Altrincham
.
Brilliant news - and fantastic the decisions made by the last Conservative administration of Trafford are finally materialising. A great day for everyone in Hale - can't wait to go and have a nosy on Thursday..!
Yesterday so delighted to hear that the new Hale library is to open this Thursday- 9th November. The most welcome news. The library can be reached from the entrance in Cecil Road car park & is upstairs in the building.
In 2022, just over one in 10 pupils secured places at Oxbridge, which is a larger percentage than at any other state secondary school /college in GM. Our unique school system in Trafford continues to deliver for residents and it must be protected. (2/2)
Out and about in Manor taking to residents.
They are fed up with the potholes and uneven road surfaces. Cars are getting damaged because of the potholes.
5 yrs of Labour run Trafford Council- Trafford ranks in Top 10 for potholes.
@cwowomen
@Women2Win
@CCACllrs
@TraffordBlue
Congratulations to
@agsb_official
for the best record for sending students to Oxbridge Unis of any state-run secondary school in Greater Manchester. (1/2)
Perhaps have a word with your shadow education secretary. Or any number of your MPs and activists who have called for abolition of Grammars, for that matter.
@chrisukstevens
@AltyTories
@OliverJCarroll
As the Executive Member for Children and Young People I can say with absolute certainty that we have absolutely no plans whatsoever to close any of our excellent Grammar schools - which are all Academies anyway. Why do you persist with these untruths?
@zacspiro
Perhaps he’s had a rethink since he whipped *against* JR reform proposed by Buckland and Raab in the JR and Courts bill (now Act) 2022. Does he have any convictions, at all…?
