Photos like these should have been all over the Irish media when the new plans for Dublin City Centre were published last week. They weren't. Instead, it was all about the poor drivers... Cars are inherently inefficient modes of transport in cities and urban environments.

Perhaps controversial but why do we have to make every last bit of forest into ‘visitor attractions’ or ‘forest parks’ ? Why can’t we just remove the invasive species, and leave nature as is. Let paths and trails develop naturally. Less is more. @Irishwildlife @NativeWoodTrust

Imagine Ireland with a handful of great vast forests. Large protected areas where nature could flourish, where forgotten & neglected species could thrive, where extinct species could roam the land once more, & where humans could get 'lost' & explore truly wild nature.

Proportion of students and staff cycling to Trinity College Dublin falls 60% in a decade. Very worrisome trend, but unsurprising given the complete lack of safe #ActiveTransport infrastructure in Dublin. This needs to change - starting tomorrow!

🚋 A LUAS line paired with a 🚲 wide protected cycle path between St Stephen's Green and Cherrywood would be a cheap and quick-to-build transport solution that could transform transport in Dublin. Turn the urban motorway that is the N11 into a #Sustainable transport corridor!

The Chapelizod Bypass in Dublin is a perfect example of terrible urban planning. What ought to be a green corridor next to the Liffey is instead used for an urban motorway. What about putting the road in a tunnel and replacing it with a sustainable, green transport corridor?

Fascinating how a rainy, windy city on the west coast of Norway can become a 'cycling capitol', while Galway, a rainy, windy city on the west coast of Ireland, continue to be choked by traffic. Is it the weather? or is it councillors' or council executives' inability to change?

Stavanger, Norway has built seven #sykkelprioriterte gatene (cycling streets) with eight more planned to build out a network for cycling. Connecting to 11 main cycling routes and blanket 30-km/h neighbourhood streets it’s clear why they are Norway’s best cycling city in 2022.

Spent the day crippled by climate anxiety pending the #salthillcycleway trial vote this evening. The climate crisis is becoming a race we can't win because of our complete inability to make such small changes that will ultimately be better for both human and planetary health.

Never-mind a small measure like a few bus gates, we ought to have much greater ambition for Dublin and the Liffey. The Liffey should be a blue and green lung in the middle of the city, not some urban motorway consumed by cars and pollutions.

This road in Galway (the city of cars) is the epitome of failed road design. The speed limit is 50kph, but the road is as wide as a dual carriageway, effectively encouraging speeding. No traffic calming measures are in place. Parking is prioritised over a cycle lane @GalwayCityCo

At a meagre 6, Ireland is one of the countries in Europe (504 in total) with the least national parks, covering only 0.9% of the country. For reference, 12% of Iceland is covered by national parks!!! We have to give nature more space in Ireland. @npwsBioData @noonan_malcolm
