"Medicine is difficult. We need to continue to attract the brightest to train as doctors. We need to ensure that their training is long enough to make them equipped to do the difficult daily work of the doctor." @AndrewElder @RCPEdin

More evidence from robust evaluation by my colleagues @TheIFS that SureStart had impressive long run impacts. Previous work showed it improved the long run health and educational achievement of poorer children. New work shows drop in serious youth offending.
More @TheIFS work out on Sure Start today, looking at rare and costly outcomes. We find big drops in serious youth offending (including youth custody), but less improvement in social care interactions or school behaviour. Take a look ๐

Very few people realise that the vast majority of hospice and palliative care is provided by charity - not by the NHS. I think this is a national scandal. Please RT if you do too ๐
In this interview with @skynewsniall, Dr Rachel Clarke (@doctor_oxford) emphasises the need to prioritise quality end of life care. Regardless of Parliament's decision on assisted dying, fixing the funding of our struggling hospice and end of life care system is essential.

Be careful everyone, this happened in greystones. The lady's daughter was scammed out of โฌ1000, using a QR code that she scanned to pay for parking.

These are very wise and important words from @sean9n. They deserve to be repeated and repeated and repeated till they become widely understood. And, if we want the NHS to survive, we all need to help the system respond to them constructively. Read it from beginning to end.
Why is the NHS less productive? Why are doctors so unhappy? could we fix both these things? With warnings from @ShaunLintern and lessons from @Philippa_Perry @danariely

In amongst the carnage of the workforce plan there is an obvious thing hiding in plain sight. Letโs solve the PA crisis in one ๐งตโฆ (spoiler I wonโt)

One of the lovely things that happened at #GES2024 was that we had a chance to acknowledge 35 extraordinary years of @GrimshawJeremy's commitment to this global movement. People stood up and gave him a standing ovation, and it was just absolutely lovely to see ๐งต4/7

This is a fantastic change in relatively short time and shows the motivation of all involved. Don't underestimate how much time and work has been put into achieving this fundamental change in the NHS. Well done!

The whooping cough vaccine in pregnancy protects your baby until it's old enough for its own vaccine. Vaccine uptake in pregnancy has dropped from 75% in 2017 to 59% in 2024. And babies are dying. This is a consequence of bad actor messaging on vaccines. Please get vaccinated!
