When I first heard about Lucy Letby's case, I had no reason to doubt the allegations against her. I began following the case because, as a neonatologist with a further interest in risk management and patient safety, I felt I needed to understand how it could possibly happen that

š¢š¢ @FionaWinserRamm I hope you donāt mind me sharing this with you. Iāve dealt with my fair share of journalists over the past 18 months and honestly, only a handful have shown both compassion and professionalism. The strategy I now have with journalists is that when I
@NeoDoc11 Those simple conversations never took place. They asked if they could speak with my husband and I, only one of us was able to do it so we decided that he would. When we communicated this to @channel5_tv they said they didnāt want a father they wanted a mother; 1/

Iām sure any time now a statement will come out to say that someone believed they were acting in good faith - assuming this is what @FionaWinserRamm would have wanted or that itās what would be best for her. ššš But paternalism is not kindness - itās entitlement. Itās the

Further to the news form today about Baroness Amos being āshocked at the scale of unacceptable NHS maternity careā, what would a wise leader do to fix this mess moving forward? In my view they would: 1. Stop cutting people slack - if you see a problem - donāt walk past.
As a campaign group we have experienced defensiveness, misinformation & retaliation. Nothing will change if there is no accountability for this. @wesstreeting @MichelleWelshMP @AndyMacNaeMP @ValerieAmos

Very interesting. Iām curious to see how MOSS will work in real life. Will the governance around it actually make doing things properly easier than gaming the system? Because the reality is that any system can be gamed - but the question is whether the effort it takes to game it
A new safety signal system is being rolled out across all maternity services in the country. Itās the first national system of its kind to flag maternity safety issues as they emerge ā helping teams act faster to keep mums and babies safe. ā¹ļø https://t.co/3A38zCciIg

And here we go again - an argument about ānormalityā that hinges on an either ignorant or deliberate mix up of ānormalā with āsafe.ā Because yes - childbirth without medical assistance is perfectly normal. Itās also - rather inconveniently well evidence based both historically
@HSJnews Normal birth isn't an ideology, it's what women are designed to do. Inductions and epidurals cause "non normal" births.

Iām struggling to understand this. Is the article essentially arguing in favour of having juries, while using an example where the jury reached the wrong verdict because the judge misdirected them? So we end up with a wrong outcome either way, but now the judge can deflect
Terrific @robilypj op-ed: "My case offers a glimpse of a terrifying, no-jury future" "The errors in my case were not the fault of 12 ordinary people who followed the legal directions they were bound to. No, the wrong turn was down to the judge alone." https://t.co/OR6io5FRWV

The āmidwives vs medicsā rhetoric is harmful to women and babies. We need collaboration to replace competition and mutual respect to replace territorialism. Patient safety and family integrated care go hand in hand - they are not opposites. Of course holistic, compassionate

I believe eliminating juries is ultimately the right decision as I have commented previously - BUT only after establishing real accountability for judges. On that note, it may be rather ironically entertaining to imagine judges being held accountable by a jury composed of

We donāt need a jury - potentially comprised of uneducated, unintelligent, or biased individuals - to protect us from intelligent but corrupt and/or incompetent judges. What we need are real consequences for judges who act improperly. We also need high-quality investigative
Trial by jury is a cornerstone of our democracy and an essential safeguard against authoritarianism. It is truly frightening that such a fundamental freedom is now under attack. Once rights are lost, they are not easy to win back. We must resist this with all weāve got.

Wow, this is huge news. I respectfully disagree with the view that itās negative. The theatrical courtroom performances in front of the jury during the Letby case contributed to a miscarriage of justice, further fueled by hysteria whipped up by sensationalist, low-quality
