The miscarriage of justice watchdog has found ‘gang narratives’ used in a joint enterprise murder conviction may have led to three wrongful convictions. The CCRC referred the cases of Durrell Goodall, Reano Walters and Trey Wilson to the Court of Appeal https://t.co/DUSjQgBX3M

I like this quote from the article: “The Court’s decision underscores a foundational principle: a person’s liberty cannot depend on expert evidence that lacks scientific grounding, cross-disciplinary support, or methodological reliability”
A landmark ruling from New Jersey: "Criminal prosecutors can’t build murder cases on medical diagnoses that the mere shaking of a baby, without further evidence of trauma, resulted in a child’s death." #ShakenBabySyndrom

This case underlines an urgent truth. More than an apology, Sullivan deserves material compensation for his life improperly spent in prison. Something he will not get under the current system, which must be radically reformed.

When I first heard about Lucy Letby's case, I had no reason to doubt the allegations against her. I began following the case because, as a neonatologist with a further interest in risk management and patient safety, I felt I needed to understand how it could possibly happen that

In less than one month, Robert Roberson is scheduled to be executed in Texas. If the state goes through with it, he will be the first person executed in the US who was convicted based on the now widely debunked “shaken baby syndrome” hypothesis.

Jonathan Coffey goes on to quote one of their beloved anonymous sources - "Either [LUCY] is spectacularly bad, or acting maliciously". You could perhaps argue either the PRODUCERS are spectacularly bad, or acting maliciously. (5/7)

Part of the problem with reporting on Lucy Letby is that it’s impossible to see all the relevant documentation. I’m a journalist as well as a (retired) doctor. I’m a believer in absolute transparency in cases like this. I think all the court transcripts and documents should

I watched the ITV documentary on Lucy Letby last night. It seems to me that there is no way that Judge or Jury were given any chance to form a proper basis on whether Lucy Letby was innocent or guilty. As Private Eye's@Dr Phil Hammond put it "What is most telling about this
Make no mistake some household names in the small world of employment law have got themselves into a right mess dealing with my whistleblowing case (see below excerpt of my evidence sent to the EAT for last month's appeal) The situation causing all this havoc is so simple; One

New Letby newsletter: what about that judge’s direction that “the jury didn’t need to know the precise method, as long as they were sure”? Is that even possible, in this case? Wasn’t it appealed? h/t @EruthmaEruthmas for the 13 word tl;dr. Link below 👇

@DebbieKennett @EruthmaEruthmas But criminal law is a profoundly social enterprise. Probability, statistics, science, medicine, psychology and inferential reasoning are fundamental to it. Criminal lawyers not only have no domain privilege in those areas: they are, to contrary, notoriously inept at them.

It is staggeringly incompetent that any trial relating to a spike of neonatal deaths heard no expert evidence from a) an experienced obstetrician b) a level 3 neonatologist or c) a medical statistician. Had it done so, the jury may well have reached very different conclusions.
Today I explain why I believe no independent obstetrician ever reviewed the clinical records for the mothers of Lucy Letby's victims, & why this might be relevant. I also summarise the obstetric issues which did make it into the baby notes.
