The distinct sound of the end doors of a subway car opening, may just be Transit officers coming through on a train patrol. Whether you notice them or not, they’re there to get millions of subway riders to their destinations safely each day.

A loaded gun almost made its way into our subway system. But thanks to these cops, the fare evader who was carrying it was stopped & discovered to have a warrant. No stranger to gun charges, the repeat felon tried fighting his way out of the arrest, but was taken into custody.

Reports of a woman being robbed had Officer Ortez of District 33 racing to an East New York subway station one recent evening. Thankfully, the crook (a repeat robbery offender) didn’t get too far and was taken into custody outside the station. Well done.

1 loaded gun. ➕.12 magazines. ➕.300+ rounds of ammunition. Proactive police work by Transit officers early this morning resulted in this alarming seizure. Whatever the man’s intentions, it’s an illegal weapon that has no place in our city, much less our subway system.

Impactful arrests often start from seemingly minor interactions. Case in point: our ATU train inspection team observe a man blasting music from a large speaker on a train, to the discomfort of fellow passengers & the conductor. Turns out the man was wanted for attempted murder.

A registered sex offender out on parole was back in the subways victimizing yet another unsuspecting rider on the 7-train. Thankfully our Queens Transit officers saw the act & quickly intervened. The 62-year-old repeat offender now faces felony charges of Persistent Sex Abuse.

For a man who devoted 41 years of service to New York City, one would be forgiven to think Chief Gerald Nelson was a man of the western frontier - rarely without his signature cowboy boots and calling colleagues “young buck.” To have the Chief refer to you by that moniker was a

A career felon found himself back on the wrong side of the law this morning when a train patrol team saw a gun peeking out of his waistband - its recovery all the more easier because the man was asleep. Sharp eyes, a quick apprehension, and a gun off the streets. Well done TD-20!

Seconds after a 28-year-old repeat offender snatched the wallet of an elderly man almost 50 years his senior at the subway turnstiles, our District 4 team had the culprit in custody. The suspect was charged with Grand Larceny & Possession of Stolen Property & released with a DAT.

We’re just 2 weeks into 2022 and a man has already been arrested 4 times in Manhattan (twice for robbery & twice for theft) - the latest as a result of great District-level investigative work to help close a subway robbery within 48 hours. Great follow-up by our District 3 NCOs.

Transit officers patrolling a Washington Heights subway station confronted a man committing a subway violation and immediately recognized him as a suspect wanted for 2 felony assault incidents on the street. Great awareness & a quick apprehension by our District 3 NCOs.

Another example of a seemingly minor enforcement encounter becoming so much more. Kudos to our ATU officers for confronting a turnstile jumper in Manhattan, only to recognize him as the man wanted for the unprovoked assault of an elderly straphanger in Queens. Well done team.

Holy smokes! When your Transit cops stopped a man for vaping in the subway, they learned he was wanted for a 2020 murder on a Queens sidewalk. Thanks to the District 34 NCO team’s quality-of-life-work, that's one less dangerous person riding our subway.

When TD-11 Officers Sosa & Bove saw a boy boarding a train by himself in the Bronx, they knew something was awry. After a brief talk, they learned the special-needs child left home w/o permission. A stop at a hospital to get checked out & the boy was soon reunited with grandma.

From commercial robbery to shoplifting, a repeat offender’s done it all in 2022. Thankfully his streak of victimizing NYers came to an end on the 6-train when our District 12 train patrol officers stepped in to arrest the man, moments after he robbed a straphanger of her money.
